Arclight Productions is pleased to announce that its documentary short film, EMERGING, produced and directed by Steven Kochones, will have its theatrical premiere at the 2016 Nashville Film Festival, debuting on Friday, April 15, 2016. This is the second Arclight film to premiere in Nashville, following last year’s world premiere of the documentary feature, Country: Portraits of an American Sound.
In a world where billions of images flood the internet each day, EMERGING follows 10 young photographers who are breaking through the noise while honoring the art form and staying original. From photojournalism to fashion to celebrity portraiture, this group of millennial image-makers offers an eye-popping look at the way photography is created, shared and consumed in today's fast-paced culture.
EMERGING showcases some of the most talented young photographers from around the world, an elite group that represents vision, drive and versatility. The film features: Olivia Bee, discovered by Converse at the age of 14; Pari Dukovic, born in Instanbul and the youngest ever staff photographer at The New Yorker; Marcus Smith, succeeding as a 'start-up' sports photographer from Chicago's South Side; Corey Arnold, commercial fisherman turned extreme nature photographer; Peter DiCampo, founder of the popular photoblog EverydayAfrica; JUCO, an L.A. based commercial photography duo shooting for brands including Nike, HP and Target; Dina Litovsky, a New Yorker of Ukrainian heritage focusing on social documentary; Russian-born documentary photographer Diana Markosian; Dutch photographer and multi-media journalist Ilvy Njiokiktjien; and American photojournalist Katie Orlinksy, who has documented Mexico's drug wars.
Steven Kochones is an award-winning director and producer specializing in documentaries. His films include the feature documentary Country: Portraits of an American Sound, which premiered at the 2015 Nashville Film Festival, as well as 16 short documentaries commissioned by the Annenberg Foundation since 2009, including The War Photographers, No Strangers and Digital Darkroom: The Art of 3D - the director’s first foray into 3D. Kochones’ critically acclaimed rock photography documentary, Who Shot Rock & Roll, premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival and was an Official Selection of 25 film festivals around the world. His other films include documentaries broadcast nationally via KCET-Link: L8S ANG3LES, Extreme Exposure and Water: Our Thirsty World, which was produced in association with National Geographic.
