Episode 16 - Part 1 - In this episode we were joined by blockchain expert Dr Darcy Allen, from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Darcy has an award-winning PHD in economics and he has also authored four books on technology and innovation. Host Peter Foyston and Darcy discuss the basics of why blockchain and trade work well together and explain the fundamentals of how and why this new-age technology works for exporters.

Episode 15 – We were joined by none other than ZURU’s Anna Mowbray for this episode of Redefining Trade. Host Peter Foyston and Anna discuss the ins and outs of ZURU’s journey to serving the world’s largest markets and delve into some of the challenges and opportunities for manufacturers across the world right now. Anna discusses what she’d like to see change with global supply chains and whether she believes trade has become easier or harder. Peter and Anna finish with some quick fire and personal questions, including Anna’s advice for her younger self and who she has been inspired by.  

Episode 14 - In this episode we were joined by Chris Nixon, Principal Economist at NZIER to discuss the recently released report: "Digital Trade is the way forward for New Zealand" from December 2021. Chris and host Peter Foyston discuss the main insights of the report, and delve into the economic benefits of digital trade. Chris describes some of the fundamental advantages from adopting digital trade, including the trust that is gained between parties in the supply chain and likens the quantum of benefits as equivalent to a high quality Free Trade Agreement or a tariff cut.

Episode 13 - In this episode we were joined by Executive Director of Export New Zealand, Catherine Beard. Export NZ’s key objectives are to provide effective advocacy and lobbying on behalf of exporters and to inspire NZ firms to engage in exporting and to grow internationally. Catherine and Peter discuss the findings of Export NZ and DHL’s latest export barometer report and what it means for exporters. Finishing with the three-by-three segment the pair dive further into what it is exporters need following a difficult two years of Covid-19 restrictions, and how certain sectors are going to diversify in a climate conscious environment.

Episode 12 – In this episode, Redefining Trade is joined by Arnold Jorge, CEO of the Export Council of Australia. Arnold and host Peter Foyston discuss the biggest challenges Australian exporters are facing in the face of Covid-19. Arnold provides some insights into the formation of AUKUS (a trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States for the Indo-Pacific region), and Arnold provides some insights into how exporters are coping with supply chain and shipping disruptions.

We finish with our new three-by-three segment where Peter has three quick fire questions for Arnold.

1. Who is leading the race in digitalised trade right now - Australia or New Zealand?

2. Is the golden age of trade is still in front of us?

Episode 11 – In this episode James Christopher, President of TMX Global Asia, joins the podcast to discuss supply chain trends across Australasia, including the digitisation of supply chains in the Covid-19 environment. James talks about how businesses use automation to meet growing customer demand for speed and efficiency, how the pandemic has forced exporters to look at every detailed part of their supply chain and how digitisation, data and automation can help build resilience within supply chains. James and host Peter Foyston also discuss how robots are democratising automation, and where data plays a role in removing bottle necks and assessing trends across different export/import markets.

Episode 9 - Paperless from paddock to plate: with Melina Lisignoli. In this episode we were joined by Greenlea’s Export Documentation Supervisor, Melina. Peter and Melina talk about how one of New Zealand’s most successful meat exporters has adopted digital trade solutions and how this has provided value for their exporting processes. Melina also provides some insight into the key factors that have influenced Greenlea to now undertake fully paperless transactions to some of its key markets.

Episode 8 - The Ruakura Superhub: with Dave Christie. In this episode we were joined by Dave Christie, Supply Chain Strategy Director at Tainui Group Holdings, New Zealand. Dave talks to host Peter Foyston about the long-term journey that the Ruakura Superhub (Waikato, NZ) has taken, from just an idea full-scale construction underway on the first 92 hectares of inland port and logistics hub. Dave talks about how the Ruakura Superhub will help de-carbonise the supply chain of New Zealand’s ‘golden triangle’ of Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga that generates around 65% of the country’s import and export cargoes.
