Have you ever thought about what it will be like to stand before God and give an account for your life? How will you make your case? What will be your appeal? What gives you confidence? What do you take pride in?
In one of the richest passages in the New Testament, Paul warns the Philippians about the dangers of false teachers who may lead them astray with advice about how the Philippians are to secure a right standing before God on that final day. Paul knows from experience that law keeping and good works cannot be the basis of our being declared right before God.
The righteousness we need to be acquitted before God comes from God and is entirely dependent on gaining Christ. So Paul now counts everything else as rubbish – he’ll gladly lose it all – if it means gaining Jesus.
