  • Real Cars vs Replicas & The Ones That Got Away | Redline Republic Podcast EP38

This week we're debating replica cars and whether they're ever worth the same money as the genuine thing. We also attempt to put together our top 10 cars since 2000, with a bit of help needed from the listeners.

Dan nearly swaps the Amarok for a C35 Laurel, Badger develops an interest in Ladas, and we chat about a few questionable car purchases along the way.

Let us know what you think of replicas and what cars deserve a spot in our top 10!

  • Diesel Sports Cars, Loud Exhausts & Modern Car Tech | Redline Republic Podcast Ep.36

+This week we somehow end up having a full debate over whether diesel cars can actually be classed as sports cars, with the GTD taking most of the abuse.

We also talk about modern cars having far too much going on, loud exhausts apparently causing anxiety, what the first thing you do after buying a car is, and a few other completely unnecessary tangents along the way.

As always, let us know who you agree with because one of us is definitely going to get told they’re wrong.

  • EVs Dying Out, 1,000HP Cars & Sketchy Car Buys | Redline Republic Podcast Ep.35

This week we get into whether EVs are actually the future, how much horsepower is too much for a road car and somehow end up talking our way through old Hondas and the cars we wish we could still buy for sensible money.

Badger also tells the story of getting a bus across the country to buy a Golf when he was far too young to be doing it, only for the car to break down on the way home and the Gardaí to end up getting involved.

We also talk about how far is too far to travel for a car, the madness of 1,000hp road cars and finish up with an idea that could see us finally starting a proper Redline Republic project car and YouTube series.

  • Drift Masters Controversy, Black Wheels & Budget Mods | Redline Republic Podcast Ep.34

Episode 34 of the Redline Republic Podcast!

Dan is straight off the plane from Warsaw, so we start with the Drift Masters final, including one of the worst judging calls we’ve seen, the drivers refusing to continue and the decision eventually being overturned.

From there, we get into whether people are spending less on modifying cars, why budget lip kits are becoming more popular, and whether paying extra for the likes of Maxton is actually worth it. We also get onto the first modification every car needs, whether you should build a car bit by bit or do everything at once, and somehow end up agreeing on one thing: black wheels are usually a waste of a good wheel.

We also go through some of your comments, talk about how the Irish car scene is viewed abroad, why nobody seems jealous of the English car scene, and the Redline Republic-liveried E10 Corolla idea gets dangerously close to becoming an actual winter project.

As always, let us know what you think in the comments, especially if you’re about to defend black wheels.

  • 86 Fest, Cars We Regret Selling & The Changing Car Scene | Redline Republic Podcast Ep.33

Dan finally got the Corolla back out for 86 Fest, and somehow it actually survived the day. Mostly.

We chat about the track day, the problems that came with it, and why we’re now seriously considering buying an E10 Corolla for the XLI Cup.

We also get into the cars we regret selling, some of the absolute bargains we used to own, and whether the car scene has changed over the years. Are people still as into cars as they used to be, or has it become more about the look and being part of the scene?

There’s also talk of old-school mods making a comeback, our questionable Norway plans, and Badger slowly losing his mind during the listener questions.

Let us know what car you’ve sold that you’d buy back tomorrow.

  • Our First Cars & Coffee, 500HP Sierras & Limited Slip Differences | Ep. 32

Our first ever Cars & Coffee somehow actually worked… and we’re still trying to process it.

This week we’re joined by Michael from the Limited Slip Differences Podcast for a proper two-hour car-scene conversation covering everything from our first Redline Republic event and raising over four figures for charity, to 500hp Sierras, Saab engine swaps, Altezzas, old-school modified cars, podcasting, burnout, gatekeeping in the Irish car scene and plenty of questionable automotive opinions.

We also get into Michael’s own journey with Limited Slip Differences, the cars he regrets selling, why his 500hp Sierra has broken his heart countless times, Max Power-era sound systems, small wheels on Sierras, dream cars, TikTok, growing a podcast and why consistency matters more than you think.

And naturally, it all ends with the important questions: bags or coilovers, Jap or German, the most overrated car in the world… and whether Michael would rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses.

Massive thanks to everyone who came out to our first Cars & Coffee and helped make it far bigger than we expected.

  • Buying a Drift Car, Car Meet Chaos & Modified Cars Gone Too Far | Redline Republic Podcast Ep.31

This week we’re getting ready for our first ever Cars & Coffee — and, as usual, we’re probably far less prepared than we should be.

We clear up a few misconceptions about our apparent hatred for Mk6 Golfs and EP Civics, talk about whether modifying a car can eventually make it worse to drive, and somehow end up debating bags vs coilovers.

Dan also comes away from the Drift Games Bash wanting a drift car, we decide a rally challenge between the two of us needs to happen, and the conversation somehow takes a turn into tractors, Landinis and Badger’s questionable agricultural history.

We also talk about what actually makes a good car meet, what we want from our own events, answer some listener questions and reveal who’s joining us for an upcoming guest episode.

As always, thanks for listening — and if you’re coming to the Cars & Coffee, we’ll see you there!

  • Alternators in the Wheels, Bus Driver Conspiracies & €50 Micras | Ep. 30

Donate to our cars and Coffee Fundraiser https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/redlinerepublic

Episode 30 somehow starts with Cars & Coffee preparations and ends up questioning whether bus drivers are real and whether ChatGPT is working for the people trying to stop alternators being fitted to electric cars.

We talk about the ridiculous rise in old car prices, including the days of €50 K11 Micras, whether Supras and R34s are actually worth the hype, why modern cars are losing buttons and becoming too complicated, hydrogen-powered JCBs, and why small wheels need to make a comeback.

We also give an update on the Redline Republic Cars & Coffee, the charity behind the event, possible special guests, hoodies, stickers and everything else we're trying to get sorted before the day.

As always, get involved in the comments and let us know what you think.

  • Cars & Coffee Is Official, Dream Cars & Dealer Service Prices | Redline Republic Podcast Ep.29

Episode 29 of the Redline Republic Podcast!

This week we finally announce the details for our first ever Redline Republic Cars & Coffee, taking place on August 30th at Toro United Football Club C15 AE98 near Navan, with money being raised for Nobber Cancer Support Group. We also talk about the first merch drop, a few ideas for prizes on the day and why there’ll be absolutely no messing at the event.

After that, we get into the usual chaos, Marketplace arguments, whether you’d rather own your dream car completely standard or have unlimited money to modify something average, why lower-powered cars with a properly specced interior are starting to make more sense, and the frightening thought of actually having to look after a €20,000 car.We also get into dealer servicing prices, buying newer cars privately vs from a dealership, cars we hated years ago but would happily own now, and somehow end up ranking generations of the Volkswagen Golf while both of us are nearly falling asleep.

As always, let us know what you think in the comments.
