Reel Comic Heroes

Flash! You know the rest. On this episode we took a look at the cult classic Flash Gordon from 1980. Neither of us had much previous experience with this movie and we both had different opinions at the end.

Flash Gordon is a pretty straight-forward sci-fi tale of an Earthman sent into outer space where he encounters Ming the Merciless. He is tasked with overthrowing the maniacal ruler of Mingo City and preventing the destruction of Earth.

This movie is like no other movie we've talked about on our list. We had a pretty good time talking about it, and we hope you enjoy the episode. Where does Flash Gordon rate for you? We'd love to know if it's considered to be classic camp fun, or better left forgotten.

This is a big one, citizens. We're always nervous to tackle some of the classic films on our list. But as we've learned; "Do or do not, there is no try".

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back picks up three years after Luke destroyed the Death Star. Leia, Han, Chewie and C3PO are on the run from Darth Vader and his minions while Luke and R2 seek out an ancient Jedi master to complete his training.

Empire is considered by some to be the best of the entire Saga. Give this a listen to see where we landed on it.

Stop. Before you listen to this episode, we highly recommend you seek out and watch Love in the Time of Monsters. It is a quirky and entertaining horror/comedy that we think you will enjoy. You can find the movie at its official website: http://www.tbcfilms.com/watch/. You can also rent or buy it on iTunes.

Love in the Time of Monsters stars Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th: 7, 8 & Jason X) and Doug Jones (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, Fantastic Four 2). The movie is about sisters who battle monsters in the woods while trying to take a family vacation.

We want to thank Producer, Andy Gunn of TBC Films for reaching out to us and sharing Love in the Time of Monsters.

Last episode we traveled across a sea of stars to talk about the near-utopian future of mankind. This time we're screaming down a blood and gasoline soaked highway in the dystopian, post apocalyptic future of Mad Max!

Where does the original Mad Max rank among the franchise for you? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter.

We'll be back in two weeks with a special episode. We watched Love in the Time of Monsters and are going to tell you all about it. You can find out more by going to http://www.tbcfilms.com/watch/ or follow @UncleSlavko on Twitter.

Alien is one of those weird movies that is essentiallyjust a slasher/thriller, but because of how well-made it is, it isregarded often as a classic piece of cinema. And rightfully so.This is a movie about survival in the face of pure terror against acreature that, like Keith Richards, cannot be killed byconventional weapons.

Now that we're in space, we're going to stay there for a while. Our next movie review will be covering Roger Moore'sMoonraker.

Steve Rogers is a hero in every sense of the word. He fights for the little guys, because he was the little guy. Steve Rogers grew up with an inherent sense of justice and bravery. He is as noble as he is strong. Regardless of being bombarded with vita rays enhancing him with strength and speed, he will never stop defending the values he holds so dear. He is truly the Sentinel of Liberty.

This is not a movie about Steve Rogers. The man at the center of this movie may hold the title of Captain America, but little else.

If you've seen the 1979 TV movie Captain America, or its follow-up Captain America II: Death Too Soon, please email us and let us know what you thought. We'd love to share your opinions on an upcoming episode.

Reel Comic Heroes will return with Ridley Scott's Alien.

We interrupt this podcast to bring you an unscheduled Trailer Talk. To our surprise, Lucasfilm decided to drop a little Rogue One action on us. With the movie coming out this December, we were starting to get a little concerned/confused with the lack of material being released for this 'Star Wars Story', set before the events of A New Hope.

We will be return next week with our review of 1979s TV Movie version of Captain America.
