  • 86 - Lost

It's a special podcast crossover with Sean and Janson with  The Weekly Pop Up Podcast as we talk about the island of mystery, "Lost."  I watched the series for the first time last summer, Janson just wrapped up, and Sean watched it when it originally aired in 2004 and he leads our discussion.

  • 85 - Love is Blind S2

    or Love is Blurry?

What a reunion! Here to unpack the reunion and the season are two good friends of mine, we go back decades. Andranee, Hikma, and I get in to the second season of the Netflix dating show and how it doesn't compare to the first but we're still hooked.

    Also, what's up with Shake?

  • 83 - Sorry to Bother You

I am so excited to have Maria on this week talking about her favorite movie, "Sorry to Bother You."

I remember when I first watched the 2018 Boots Riley movie and I wasn't a fan but years later, the rewatch changed my view and this discussion with Maria cements it.

To relax, Maria watches the classic "The Wayans Brothers," on HBOMax which follows the random adventures of Shawn and Marlon and Pops played by the late-great John Witherspoon. Maria thinks more people show finally check out HBO's "White Lotus," and if you've seen it, rewatch because it will make you think.

  • 81 - Malcolm X

Nick joins the show this week to talk about one of his favorite movies, "Malcolm X." I'll be honest, it took me longer than I would admit to watching the movies but it immediately shoots up to my top favorites. This week, Nick and I talk about how relevant the movie still is and how history can sometimes Disneyfy figures like Malcolm X.

Nick is one of the two hosts of one of my favorite podcasts, 'This is the thing podcast,' where he and Justin discuss all things including breaking down the misconception that Black men and men in general can't be vulnerable.

To relax, Nick watches the classic, 'Boondocks.' It follows the Freemans boys, Riley and Huey, "who undergo culture clash when they move from Chicago to the suburbs to live with their granddad. It's currently streaming on HBOMax. Nick thinks more people should stop what they're doing and start watching Netflix's 'Midnight Mass.'

If you're enjoying the show, please take a moment to leave a review on Apple Podcast. It allows other people to find the show. Thanks.

  • 80 - Abbott Elementary

It's safe to say ABC's "Abbott Elementary' is a hit. Creator Quinta Brunson created the show a few years ago originally as a cartoon. Fortunately, we have this iteration of the show starring Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, and Janelle James.

Former teacher Chris joins Jeran and I and shares how educators identify with the sitcom.

  • 79 - Yellowjackets

'Yellowjackets' is probably one of the biggest surprise hits of 2021. The first season of the thriller wrapped in January, it is, "part survival epic, part psychological horror story and part coming-of-age drama."

This week, Temi AKA Naija Vixen joins the show to discuss the Showtime series. We get into so many theories, if you've seen the show you'll want to hear our Reddit thoughts.

  • 78 - Remembering Betty White in The Golden Girls

On what would have been Betty White's 100th birthday, Maggie joins the show to discuss White's legacy. For years, I made fun of my good friend Maggie for watching 'The Golden Girls.' She watched it through college and I just didn't understand but I now get it. I wish it didn't take me until White's death to watch.

You may notice the #BettyWhiteChallenge throughout the day. Well, people of the internet are donating to animal shelters in her name. White along with being a comedic actress, game show contestant, she was an avid animal lover.

NPR writes, "actress and icon Betty White died Friday at the age of 99. Her career as a comic actress – on TV, on radio, in movies, and more – lasted more than 80 years. She was probably best known for her work on The Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. But White was a trailblazer, a record-setter, and one of the most venerated figures in the history of television."

  • 77 - Movies That Define a Generation: Millennials and Gen Z
I've been waiting for my fellow cinephile Paul to join the show this week. We met in college when we were both resident assistants. This week, he joins the show to discuss his Letterboxd's list 'Middle Millennial and Gen Z Starter Pack.'    He explains it as a list of movies that point to a part of our upbringing, those who are, middle Millennials and early Gen zs. The list includes favorites like "Social Network" and "Juno" but also a few movies I haven't heard of. This is a fun episode.
