Overview: Just as fear gripped the heart of the servant of Elisha when he could only see the armies of the Syrians that surrounded him and the small town of Dothan -2 Kings 6-, so we will fear when we can only see the armies of the enemy surrounding our lives, our families, our jobs, our church, and our nation. But when the prophet Elisha prayed that the eyes of his servant might be opened, he saw the multitudes of God-s greater and mightier host of angels that surrounded the Syrian army, and his fear fled, for he had seen the battle from heaven-s perspective. We must likewise take a look by faith from heaven-s view where God is not shuddering in fear, where Jesus Christ reigns in sovereign peace, and where the armies of heaven surround all the enemies that you, your family, or the church faces. The Kingdom of Jesus Christ advances despite the hatred, the cruelty, and the persecution that comes against us in standing for Jesus and His truth.----This truth is clearly observed from our text today in the opposition that Paul and Silas face. These faithful servants of Jesus Christ will not surrender despite the hatred and cruelty of God-s enemies, but faithfully and steadfastly move from city to city leaving behind new converts and disciples of Jesus Christ who work, establish, and advance the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. No power on earth can prevent the advance of Christ-s Kingdom. The main points from our text this Lord-s Day are the following- -1- Trouble Follows Paul-s Effective Preaching -Acts 17-1-9-- -2- Blessing Follows the Berean-s Effective Listening -Acts 17-10-15-.
