The Kewanee Girls Basketball team ran into a buzzsaw on Monday night against the top ranked team from Peoria Notre Dame. The loss brought an end to the season for the Boiler Girls and while it was not the most ideal end to the season, Coach Nick Christakos found a number of positive things to say about his team and their effort all season long. In this postgame conversation with Russ Hughes, Coach Christakos talks about a tough loss, the end of the season, and the seniors who played their last game on Monday night in Peoria.

February is National Heart Health Month and one thing that has a significant effect on your heart health is your diet. Too much fat or sugar can have a detrimental effect on your heart health, especially if you have a history of heart issues in your family. Sara Umphleet from OSF Saint Luke Medical Center, along with Samantha Rux, joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Monday, February 12th to talk about Diet and Heart Health. Sara says there are healthy levels of fat and sugar and they can vary between men and woman. She also says to watch out for hidden extra sugar in items you might not think would have so much extra sugar.

The Atkinson Fire Department is set to hold a Taco Fundraiser on March 3rd, 2024. It's a Taco Sunday from 3 PM to 6 PM at the Atkinson Fire Department 103 W. Center Street in Atkinson. The Atkinson Fire Department is a family affair as three members of the Hicks Family, Grace, Hank and their dad, are all part of the Atkinson Fire Department and will each be part of the Taco Sunday Fundraiser. We spoke with Grace and Hank on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Monday, February 12th, 2024. Grace and Hank talked about being part of the fire department with their dad, the equipment that the Atkinson Fire Department hopes to get with the money raised, and the raffles that will also be part of the fundraising effort.

The Kewanee Boilermakers walloped Hall on Friday night. 72 to 39. The Boilermakers were hitting on all cylinders on Friday night knocking down three pointers and closing on defense while collecting turnovers. Coach Matt Clark was very pleased with his team's play and spoke with Russ Hughes and Jeremy Peart after the game. The coach then brought his Seniors up for a quick chat as well.

Kathy Werderman  is looking forward to the Friends of the Animals Craft Show happening on February 24th at the Kewanee American Legion. It's an event filled with crafts and charity, with numerous vendors with many unique items for sale . The basket raffles are being prepared and a special raffle with donations from Tim Bryner and Little Valley Crafts is set up to assist Kewanee City Councilman Steve Faber and his Family. Besides the artisan displays, breakfast and lunch will be served to patrons. Be sure to mark your calendars for this festive, philanthropic occasion.
