At 21 years old she escaped from a cult, She went on to college, earned a degree in Astrophysics and wrote songs about her remarkable experience escaping from a religious cult, leaving behind family in order to cut her own path in life. The Henry and Stark County Health Department released new COVID-19 numbers on Wednesday and the numbers remained about the same as last week with 117 new confirmed cases in Henry County and 11 new confirmed cases in Stark County. Meanwhile. as the severe weather rolls over the area the Health Department is advising people to stay safe in the extreme cold with tips available on the Henry and Stark County Health Department facebook page. Many folks in Kewanee remember when there was a Christmas tree put up at Tremont and 2nd Street. It was a tradition for many years, though a troubled one as several accidents occurred that eventually led to the discontinuing of the tradition. Dave Clarke has reflected on the downtown Christmas tree before on Kewanee Back When but then a photo posted to Kewanee Nostalgia in 2021, caught Dave's eye when it popped up again recently. In the background, as the tree is being secured into place, you can see a sign for WKEI. This solved a little mystery as to when this sign, which is now fully refurbished and on display at the Kewanee Historical Society, was actually in use promoting WKEI and placing the location of WKEI's studios in 1954 at 2nd and Tremont. The Galva City Council met on Monday night and there was some good news regarding the City's EAV as Galva residents will see a slight decrease in property taxes due to the latest Equalized Assessed Value or EAV. The Mayor also updated everyone on the latest. Galva has signed a new solar contract that will bring more solar arrays to the community and more energy options to the City of Galva in the future.
