Jim Bohannon, whose show airs weeknights from 9 Pm to Midnight on WKEI joined Wake Up Tri-Counties recently to say hello to the Tri-County area and share his thoughts on the news of the day. We spoke with Jimbo about Ukraine and Russia and the conflict that is engulfing Eastern Europe with worldwide implications. We also asked Jim for his thoughts on the new Supreme Court Justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson.

The Henry County Senior Center is offering a few new services via state grants. Cassandra Schmoll from the Henry County Senior Center spoke to WKEI on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Monday morning about new ways that the Senior Center can help seniors in need when it comes to dementia care or making sure you get your COVID vaccinations and booster. Of course, the home delivered meal program is up and running and accepting new people on each route. In-person meals are back with lunch at the Senior Center and dinner every Tuesday.

The Bishop Hill Virtual Chautauqua featuring storyteller Brian Fox Ellis will take place next week, March 7th, 8th, and 9th, at the Bishop Hill Creative Commons. The event will also be live streamed on Facebook via History in Person, a new page launched by storyteller Brian Fox Ellis to support history presentations. You can enjoy the Chautauqua in person next week beginning at 6 Pm each day or you can enjoy it by going to the History in Person Facebook page where the live performance, in character, Chautauqua will be beautifully captured and broadcast for only 7 days for subscribers to the History in Person YouTube page. The Mayor of Galva, Rich Volkert, joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Wednesday to discuss Monday's Galva City Council Meeting. One big topic was road repair as the City of Galva looks to maintain roads now to save on repairs down the road. The Mayor also addressed another incident in which a train blocked a portion of the City while stopped. The Mayor says he's received complaints regarding stopped trains but he admits, there is not much that the City of Galva can do regarding the trains other than invite residents to contact the railroad owners directly with complaints regarding stopped trains. The Levitt Amp Galva Concert Series has opened their 2022 fundraising season to match the money provided by a grant from the Levitt Amp Galva Concert Series. And the Mayor discussed the upcoming cemetary clean up in Galva which will take place in the month of March. Mayor Volkert reminds everyone that if you have decorations up at a local cemetery that you would like to keep you should go to local Galva Cemeteries this week to recover the items. Otherwise, items left at grave stones will be removed by City employees.

Mark Mikenas, Director of the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce, joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Tuesday to talk about the return of the annual K-Town Comedy Night at the Flemish American Club. After having to cancel due to COVID-19 restrictions in 2021, the K-Town Comedy Night is back to help raise funds to support the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce and provide a night of laughs from a pair of comedians just coming off of a residency in Las Vegas. The comics will be revealed soon but your tickets to K-Town Comedy Night at the Flemish American Club on Saturday, March 26th, are on sale now at the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce.

The Kewanee City Council met on Monday, February 28th, 2022. On the agenda where a pair of properties for demolition and the approval of the purchase of new Police vehicles. WKEI spoke with Kewanee Mayor Gary Moore about these topics and more on the Tuesday edition of Wake Up Tri-Counties. In our conversation the Mayor discussed the demolition projects, some minor hesitance he had about the type of vehicles being recommended for purchase for the Kewanee Police, and the latest on local Union contract negotiations.
