Dr Chris Sullens, Kewanee School District, Superintendent was our guest on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Tuesday, March 22nd. Dr. Sullens was on hand to talk about Monday's Kewanee School Board Meeting. During the meeting and our interview Dr. Sullens updated the progress on several building plans across the district. Dr. Sullens explained that several of the projects are taking longer to complete than others do to lack of building supplies. That said, each project has remained active and on the road to completion. Dr. Sullens also took time to honor the Contest Play performers who finished 3rd at Sectionals last week and the Kewanee Group Interpretation Team which finished in 1st place and qualified for State. It's the 16th year in a row, outside of COVID-19, that the Group Interpretation Team has made it to the State Competition.

Andrew Dwyer, Kewanee Park District Executive Director, joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022. Mr. Dwyer joined the show to discuss a new opening on the Park Board with the retirement of Jackie Verscha. The Kewanee Park District is asking people to reach out to Board Members and to Andrew Dwyer if they'd like to be considered for appointment to finish the remaining term of Jackie Verscha who announced recently that she was stepping down. Andrew Dwyer also announced the start of work on a new pollinator garden, made possible by a grant, and several grant applications that have gone out related to funds being made available by the American Rescue Plan. Finally, Andrew Dwyer spoke to WKEI about plans for the Park District to enter into an agreement for three Solar Arrays that will be part of the existing City of Kewanee Solar Project with Clean Energy Design Group.

On April 2nd, local business owner Emma Fitzwater, owner of Line of Sight Studios, is putting on a very unique event. The Encouraging Dreams Runway Show is a chance for anyone whose ever wanted to try and walk on a runway like a real super-model to take their shot. From 4 PM to 5:30 PM inspiring speakers will deliver speeches about the dreams they've accomplished and the obstacles they've overcome. Alongside those speeches will be volunteers who will walk the runway in costume showing off their unique style while testing out their dream of being a model. This is not a fundraiser, it's an event happening simply to inspire and uplift. In another era someone said of Kewanee, Illinois that there were as many taverns as their were churches in the City. That is an almost true statement, at least for a short period of the early 1940s.
