The Henry and Stark County Health Department announced this week that two Stark County residents died this week due to COVID-19. They bring the total number of people in Henry and Stark County to die from COVID-19 to 96 people since the start of the pandemic in 2020. RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department tells WKEI that we have a pandemic of the unvaccinated, as the CDC is now calling it and it's leading to the spread of the so-called Delta Variant of COVID-19. It's a more transmissible and dangerous form of the COVID-19 virus but one that can be made mild if you are vaccinated.

The Friends of the Kewanee Public Library Book Sale is back in 2021 as part of Kewanee Hog Days. The friends of the library book sale will take place from 7 Am to 12 Noon on Saturday, September 4th in the parking lot of Johnson Equipment. The Library Book Sale is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Friends of the Kewanee Public Library and goes along toward supporting events at the Library. Sara Billiet announced the return of the Annual Library Book Sale during an interview on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Thursday morning.

Members of the McDonough County 4H are at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield competing in a wide range of competitions. Beth Chatterton with the McDonough County 4H spoke to MacombNewsNow.com about the talented and brilliant 4H members who are shining in state competition this week and next in Springfield. Kewanee Parks Director Andrew Dwyer joined RegionalDailyNews.com on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Wednesday. Among the items discussed were the troubles at the 19h Hole Restaurant. For the moment, the grill at the Baker Park Golf Course is off due to staffing shortages. The goal is to have the grill back up and running by next week with new staff hired this week. Monday's storm left some tree damage in Baker Park which has been mostly cleaned up and Mr Dwyer addressed an issue raised by a caller to Speak Up Tri-Counties by explaining how an algae bloom in the Windmont Park lake is part of the natural course of high Summer temperatures and humidity and is naturally dispersed when it rains. Finally, Andrew Dwyer took the opportunity to promote Relay for Life which is moving to Northeast Park for the first time on August 21st.

The Memorial Hospital Foundation in Carthage is still working hard on their 'You Are My Sunshine' Fundraising Campaign. The goal is to build a Four Seasons Room for the residents at Hancock Village and you can help by making a donation to the Memorial Hospital Foundation at any time. The campaign still has a way to go but Jennifer Garner, Director of Development for the Foundation tells MacombNewsNow.com that things are moving forward with fundraising events planned and a push for general donations via MHCTLC.org.
