The Henry County Farm Bureau Golf Outing is taking place on Friday, August 13th at Baker Park Golf Course in Kewanee. It's one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Henry County Farm Bureau and Katie Laleman with the Henry County Farm Bureau spoke to Wake Up Tri-Counties about the importance of the funds raised from the Golf Outing and how it helps with Farm Bureau Scholarships and the Ag in the Classroom Program.

On Monday evening the Kewanee City Council had a lengthy and informative meeting covering a wide array of topics. Mayor Gary Moore joined WKEI on Tuesday's Wake Up Tri Counties to talk about changes to a pair of ordinances that will now make it possible for a Cannabis Cultivation Center to come to Kewanee. Before Monday night the ordinance only allowed for a Cannabis retail outlet. The City Council also heard from City of Kewanee staff regarding electric vehicle charging stations and staff recommended changes to City code regarding unattached garages. In this week's City Council packet it was announced that EPA clean up work at the former Kewanee Boiler Site had begun as well as work on one of the local water towers and Mayor Moore addressed both of those issues in our conversation on Wake Up Tri-Counties.

August is Kids Eat Right Month. Sara Umphleet from OSF Saint Luke Medical Center along with Samantha Rux, joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about Kids Eat Right Month and how parents can teach their kids good eating habits and how important it is for kids to learn good eating habits at an early age. Taylor Hager from Braveheart Children's Advocacy Center was our guest on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Monday as part of our latest spotlight on Mental Health courtesy of the Kewanee Area United Way and Great Dane. In this conversation, Taylor explains the concept of Adverse Childhood Experiences or ACES as they can be referred to. These are experiences that can shape the life of a child, especially a child experiencing trauma, abuse or crisis. We talked to Taylor about how to identify and prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences.

Stuff the Bus is a little different this year. With COVID-19 still around, the Salvation Army still can't do events in person as they did before the pandemic. Thus, the Stuff the Bus school supply drive will be a three day event where donations can be left in a bin at Wal Mart. Buy school supplies, as much or as little as you like, and leave them in the marked bin for donations at the Kewanee Wal Mart. Donated supplies will be picked up by the Kewanee Salvation Army and donated to our local schools. Eddie Tolliver from the Kewanee Salvation Army was our guest on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Wednesday and talked about Stuff the Bus and additional funds available to help those in need now available via the Kewanee Salvation Army.

What is Emotional Abuse? There is no one specific answer to that question but there are some general ways to classify it. Julie Portillo is with Freedom House and she recently joined WKEI as part of our ongoing series on mental health, sponsored by the Kewanee Area United Way and Great Dane, and we talked about Emotional Abuse and ways to identify and understand it. And it's very important to know that there are resources out there for recovery from Emotional Abuse.
