Coach Paul Westhead led the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA Championship in 1980 and from there went on to revolutionize the game with his unique offense. While this style would struggle against the methodical and rough style of NBA defense, in the world of College Basketball, Westhead's style became iconic and beloved among fans. Now, Coach Westhead is taking us inside his iconic, fan friendly offense and his history in both the NBA and college basketball in the new book, The Speed Game.

The Kewanee Public Library will be hold a pair of Zoom Meetings in February to educate the public further about Consumer Fraud and Identity Fraud. Kewanee Mayor Gary Moore was our guest on Tuned In on Thursday, January 28th 2021. On the show, the Mayor recapped a mostly mundane Kewanee City Council Meeting which included the awarding of a demolition contract, the approval of sales of excess vehicles and the very first update from new City of Kewanee Finance Director Randi Haley and how the audit of City of Kewanee Finances has been somewhat hampered by the recent data theft that the City suffered. The interview also included a frank discussion of the recent Justice Reform Bill that is currently awaiting the signature of Governor J.B Pritzker. Mayor Moore, a former Kewanee Police Officer, opposes the bill.

RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department joined WKEI for the second of our twice weekly conversations about the latest COVID-19 news and the latest on vaccination clinics. The pandemic claimed four more local lives recently and the urgency to get the vaccine to more people is deeply felt at the Health Department. Right now, everyone is at the mercy of the vaccine supply which is hopefully to be ramped up soon but, for now, there are limitations. The next drive thru vaccine clinic registration is set for February 8th with the next set of clinics for people 65 and up to begin later in the month.

The first COVID-19 Drive Thru Vaccination Clinics filled 1200 appointments in just under 1 hour after the online registration opened on the Henry and Stark County Health Department website, HenryStarkHeath.com. Why 1200? Because that was the amount of Vaccine available when the clinic was announced. Limitations on supply, despite Operation Warp Speed, have been at a crawl and the Health Department will only disperse vaccine they have on hand at the time. Freedom House continues to offer a vital service to the Illinois Valley area and beyond. Princeton Outreach and Facilities Manager Trisha Schafer visited WZOE’s Wake Up Princeton morning show recently.

She told host Paul Bomleny that despite the ongoing COVID-19 situation, Freedom House continues to provide all essential services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. She says during the pandemic, the incidence of domestic violence and sexual abuse has increased and more victims than usual have sought refuge at Freedom House.

Freedom House is a non-profit organization that serves survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence. Freedom House provides services to adults and children in Bureau, Henry, Marshall, Putnam, and Stark Counties. Shafer says Freedom House currently has an opening for a full-time facilities superintendent.
