Dr Chris Sullens was our guest on Tuned In on Thursday. Among the topics discussed was the Equalized Assessed Value in Henry County or EAV. EAV determines the school budget based on tax revenue from property tax in the county. We also touched briefly on the Teacher's Union contract with Kewanee Schools. Dr Sullens says that an agreement is on the table and will be discussed at a Special School Board meeting in the near future. And, of course, we talked about COVID-19 and how the school is approaching mitigation and safety and, for now, how Kewanee Schools have no plans to go back to all E-Learning rather than in person classes.

The Henry and Stark County Health Department says that the new CDC guidelines for reporting COVID-19 give a more accurate picture of the spread of COVID-19 across the country, the state and in Henry and Stark County. RaeAnn Tucker joined WKEI to address the continued pushback that has accompanied the change that includes in the count Positive Confirmed cases of COVID-19 and Probable cases. The only difference being the accuracy of the administered test, one test for COVID-19 is more accurate while the other test gets results quicker. Nevertheless, online reaction to the increasing COVID-19 numbers has led the Health Department to further address why the new reporting is more accurate to the actual spread of COVID-19.

Kewanee Mayor Gary Moore joined WKEI on our Tuned In program on Tuesday morning to wrap up Monday night's Kewanee City Council Meeting. During our interview, the Mayor addressed the COVID-19 quarantine that has limited the staff at City Hall and how that led to a limited agenda for the Council Meeting as some staff were not available for the meeting. The Mayor addressed the bond issue partnership with the State Bank of Toulon, final authorization for repairs at the South Water Tower, a new agreement with Lakeshore Recycling that will benefit the City of Kewanee budget and the continuing discussion over how the City of Kewanee accepts bids related to property owned by the City.
