RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department joined WKEI on Tuesday morning for our latest COVID-19 conversation. Topics included the upcoming COVID-19 Drive Thru testing clinics in Kewanee and Toulon. The first drive thru testing clinic will take place this Saturday from 9 Am until 1 Pm at the old hospital site on Elliott Street in Kewanee. It's a nasal swab test and while there is no upfront cost, if you do have insurance you are asked to show your insurance card so insurance can be billed in order to recoup some cost from the event. But again, there will be no upfront cost. We also discussed the latest IDPH numbers and addressed the latest rumors and skepticism on social media.

The Kewanee City Council met on Monday night at Kewanee City Council chambers for the first time since March when the COVID-19 pandemic began to take hold. On the agenda, a discussion of Kewanee trick or treat plans, a discussion of citywide warning systems, a pair of special use permits, and appointments to the Civil Service Commission. When Mayor Moore joined WKEI on Tuned on Tuesday we talked about a number of topics including recent early retirements by City of Kewanee employees.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 17th in the City of Kewanee. For Kewanee residents only, the Citywide Clean Up is back. Keith Edwards, Kewanee Director of Community Development joined WKEI on People to People on Monday to talk about what people can and cannot dispose of at the Clean Up and what you need to know regarding COVID and the clean-up. An important note, those attending the clean up, should be prepared to empty their vehicle themselves as volunteers will be greatly limited and all who attend must wear a mask.

Dr Cliff Martin, Vice President Chief Medical Officer serving OSF Saint Luke Medical Center, OSF Holy Family Medical Center, and OSF St. Mary Medical Center, joined WKEI for our weekly conversation about the latest COVID-19 medical headlines. Once again on the agenda was a discussion of a potential spike in COVID-19 cases in the winter. As Dr Martin explains, it has little to do with the weather and more to do with how weather drives more people indoors and into enclosed spaces where COVID-19 is more easily transmitted. More people in an enclosed space with not much ventilation leads to more infections, hence a winter spike in COVID. We also talked about recovering from COVID and how we don't really yet know what a full recovery from COVID-19 looks like. For some it passes like the flu and for others, the symptoms can linger for months even as the virus itself has run its course. Dr Cliff Martin from OSF Saint Luke Medical Center was our guest on Tuned In on Monday.

Kittens invaded our Regional Media Studios on Friday as we were visited by Board Members from the Henry County Humane Society Kewanee Animal Shelter. Sue Sagmoen and Mary Bergren joined Tuned In on Friday to promote Sunday's Golf Ball Drop fundraiser at Bake Park. You can purchase golf balls at Heartfelt Gifts for the chance to win a cash prize if your golf ball is the one that lands closest to the target. Golf balls will be dropped from the top of the Kewanee Fire Department Ladder truck onto a giant target at 1 Pm on Sunday afternoon. Mary Bergren brought kittens to our studios because they have kittens available for adoption now at the shelter.
