Kentrel Welcome, a young man who grew up in Kewanee, a member of the class of 2015 at Kewanee High School is helping lead a positive way forward. Kentrel is the organizer of a peaceful protest set for this Saturday, June 6th in Kewanee. The peaceful march will begin at Kewanee City Hall and with the cooperation of Kewanee Police, some of whom will be marching with the protesters. The plan is to gather at 1 Pm at Kewanee City Hall and march to Northeast Park where protesters are invited to lie down in the grass for 9 minutes, commemorating the last minutes in the life of George Floyd. WKEI spoke with Kentrel Welcome this afternoon.

OSF Saint Luke Medical Center is resuming elective surgeries, medical services such as Mammograms and Colonoscopies and seasonal immunizations for adults and children. As of Monday, June 1st, you can contact OSF Saint Luke Medical Center to make appointments for services that were stopped amid the worst of the pandemic. OSF Saint Luke Medical Center has taken every pre-caution to make sure that these services can return and return safely.

Susan Glassman of the University of Illinois Extension recently visited “Wake Up Princeton” on WZOE. She’s been working at the U of I Extension for 20 years. Her office serves Bureau, La Salle, Marshall and Putnam counties. Despite the coronavirus situation, all of their resources are still available, though webinars have become more popular during the self isolation period. A series of free webinars on food preservation kicks off on June 3 and will take place every Wednesday at 1 pm through July 22. You can register for the webinars on their website. The upcoming webinars will offer information on canning, freezing, dehydrating, fermenting, and other ways to preserve food. Participants will also learn how to make homemade jellies and jams. The A & W Titans Football team had a remarkable season and Coltin Quagliano as their Quarterback was a big reason why. Though he gives most of the credit to his lineman and receivers, there is no way to deny Coltin's own effort in helping A & W reach new heights during the 2019 Football season. Now, in the midst of COVID-19 shutting down most sports, Coltin is traveling to keep active and playing travel baseball while corresponding with Coaches and staying in shape for that day when the A & W Titans take the field once again.

Sara Billiet from the Kewanee Public Library joined WKEI for our Tuned In Program on Thursday. The Summer Reading Program at the Kewanee Public Library is back once again but this time, you can track your progress and your child's progress virtually. Late in June, the Kewanee Public Library is launching an app aimed at aiding the Summer Reading Program. The BeanStack app will allow participants in the Summer Reading Program to track the progress of their Summer reading all in one spot for themselves and their kids. BeanStack will be available for Smartphone users in late June.
