As of June 1st, the lobby at Peoples National Bank will re-open to customers while adhering to social distancing. The Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club recently chose Etta LaFlora as the 2020 Kewanee Outstanding Citizen. A dedicated pubic servant, Etta was behind the creation of Sunshine Community Service Center and the Step Ladder Tutoring Service which has mentored students at Kewanee and Wethersfield and helped numerous students in need. Step Ladder has received recognition from the City of Kewanee as well as the State of Illinois for what Step Ladder has down for our local students. Etta is also active in the celebration of Black History Month in Kewanee and we talked about all of that in our interview on People to People.

The Kewanee City Council met on Tuesday night for nearly 2 and a half hours. The length was necessary as a big conversation needed to be had in order to set the ground rules for restaurants to re-open on Friday, May 29th with outdoor dining options. Phase 3 of the Governor's plan to re-open the economy in Illinois means that restaurants can re-open this Friday for outdoor dining only and only after local municipalities create ordinances for the allowance of outdoor dining. The Council voted 5-0 in favor of a new outdoor dining ordinance with some caveats.

The Kewanee Salvation Army doesn't re-open until June 1st but you can start donating items again to the Kewanee as soon as today, Wednesday, May 27th. Eddie Tolliver joined WKEI on Wednesday's edition of People to People to talk about re-opening and keeping volunteers, employees and customers safe. Eddie also tells WKEI that the Salvation Army has grant money remaining to be given to anyone who can show they've been hit hard financially by COVID-19.

Multi-sport star Kavon Russell is gearing up for College after a stellar High School career filled with highlights. Kavon is headed to Dubuque University to continue his football and basketball career. Kavon tells WKEI that he sought out a school that would allow him to continue playing both Football and Basketball. It's been tough being away from teammates and the gym since COVID-19 ended his school year sooner than expected but Kavon is still find ways to stay in shape and stay motivated.

The new normal may include thermal imaging at businesses nationwide. Chuck Marino is the CEO of Sentinel Security Solutions and his company had been developing thermal imaging for finding people who were carrying weapons into stadiums. It didn't work but it turns out that this technology was adaptable for the new normal of the COVID-19 era. Thermal imaging can tell if someone has a fever and a fever is one of the notable symptoms of COVID-19. Identifying those with a fever and preventing them from entering public spaces may be a way to help keep people safe as we wait for a cure,
