WIC services continue to be available from the Health Department during this time of COVID-19 but under abnormal circumstances.

Representative Cheri Bustos joined WKEI on Monday to talk about the effort to combat COVID-19. In our interview Representative Bustos addressed how quickly aid will be coming for small businesses and their employees. Representative Bustos also discussed her recent visit to OSF Healthcare where she witnessed firsthand the tele-health innovations being created by OSF. Rep. Bustos also discussed financial relief for OSF given the resources the hospital group has put into the fight against COVID-19. Congresswoman Bustos is touring district 17 and talking to local governments and first responders about their needs. And finally, Congresswoman Bustos called on Republicans and Democrats to work together in this time of need.

Barbara Love, Director of the Kewanee Public Library announced on WKEI on Monday that the Library is going fine free. The Kewanee Public Library is eliminating fines and late fees as of April 1st officially. That said, due to the Coronavirus, the forgiving of late fees has already begun. If you have a late item, all that you have to do is return it to have your library card restored. Going forward, those who fail to return an item after 30 days will have their ability to take items from the library suspended until the item is returned.

On Friday, Marshall Jones, Chairman of the Henry County Board, talked COVID-19 on WKEI. Mr Jones was our guest on People to People and talked about the remarkable preparation and planning undertaken by Henry County First Responders. Mr Jones quoted from an inspirational devotional and spent time praising the work of Henry County Emergency Management Director Mat Schnepple who has led the County response.

The Kewanee Area United Way and the Salvation Army are pulling together their resources to help those in need during the COVID-19 outbreak. Linda Blair from the Kewanee Area United Way tells WKEI that they have begun gathering supplies and with the aid of the Salvation Army they will begin to deploy those supplies to those in need. With the help of sponsors, the Kewanee Area United Way is gathering non-perishable food products as well as hygiene products that will be put into care packages and given to those who need them. Eddie Tolliver from the Salvation Army will be the go to person if you are someone who is in need of this type of aid.
