Guest Bio ~

Dr. Azadeh Khatibi is a fellowship-trained and board-certified ophthalmologist. She was a Regent’s Scholar at UCLA and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with Highest Departmental Honors in Molecular, Cell, Developmental Biology. She began her career as an actor while simultaneously pursuing studies at one of the top medical schools in the country, UCSF, in the Joint Medical Program, which only accepted 12 people per year. She also got her Master’s in Public Health and a master’s in Health & Medical Sciences, both from UC Berkeley. She completed internal medicine internship and residency at UC, Irvine, where she was chosen chief resident. She finished vitreo-retinal medicine and surgery at UC San Diego.  

 Dr. Khatibi is also a filmmaker and actress. She acted in and helped produce the feature Window Horses, with Sandra Oh, which was short-listed for Academy Award nomination. She was a lead producer of the film Sinjar, a narrative feature about the Yazidi genocide of 2014. Her acting credits The Truth is Hard to Find, directed by Darren Aronofsky. She served as a consultant on The Magic School Bus Rides Again (Netflix) and was a writing finalist in the Women in Film PSA program.

In addition, Dr. Khatibi is also a scientist, having discovered and named an eye disease, and also a published author of short story and poetry. She also volunteers as a mindfulness and highly gifted and highly sensitive mentor. 

Most recently, Dr. Khatibi has become a vocal advocate for medical freedom and ethics. She’s sued the state of California and the Medical Board of California in two lawsuits regarding first amendment rights violations of physicians. 

 This fall, Dr. Khatibi testified in front of members of Congress’s Select Sub-Committee on COVID in Washington DC.

Vivian Kanchian holds a Masters degree in Public Health, and a Bachelors in Nutrition. She is a firm believer in food as medicine and has seen its incredible power to heal firsthand. Some of her accomplishments include helping successfully launch and grow a Food Is Medicine program in LA Country from inception and working alongside an integrative doctor to help women of all life stages balance their hormones using food, nutraceuticals, and lifestyle interventions.Vivian is most passionate about raising awareness around the importance of health sovereignty, and how regenerative agriculture is the ideal solution to improving our food and water quality, food security, climate, and the health and prosperity of all living beings. She is endlessly inspired by nature’s cycle of stress-rest-regeneration.

Daniel José Gaztambide, PsyD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at Queens College, a psychologist in private practice, and author of the book “A People’s History of Psychoanalysis: From Freud to Liberation Psychology”. He is a candidate in psychoanalytic training at the NYU Post-Doctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, and conducts research centered on decolonial, community participatory action approach to examining colonial mentality among Puerto Rican populations, and how intersecting identities inform the experience and resilience of individuals and communities. In his scholarly work he writes about social justice and cultural competency, psychoanalysis and race, and the history of social justice in psychoanalytic thought. Aside from his work in psychology he is a spoken word poet, and a member of the Puerto Rican poetry troupe, the Títere Poets
