Most Men deal with emotional numbness. They aren't aware of how they feel, they put effort into growing their ability to feel, and they don't have the language to explain how they feel. They live in their minds. This works until their partner wants more emotional intimacy or they get overwhelmed by a life experience. When things feel like too much, they go numb as a way to cope. As you disconnect from yourself, others feel less connected to you. This will lead to feeling alone, misunderstood, angry, and depressed. That's probably not what you want. The more you understand your strategies to avoid feeling, the better equipped you will be to face difficult emotions. True or no? There's a big difference between trusting your partner to clean their dishes and trusting them with your life. We need better language to explain the difference. How do we put more attention on the things that matter and build more patience with the things that don't? Save yourself from unnecessary suffering by looking at your values with more clarity. www.brycebauer.com www.jennymorrow.com
The term codependency was first used in the 1950s to describe the relationship that some wives had with their alcoholic husbands. Since then, it's been widely interpreted to mean "too dependent" on someone. But how do we square that with marriage when there is intrinsic dependency on one another? Can dependency create more security and emotional safety? How much is too much? Are there ways in which our resistance to dependence can create unhealthy patterns? I answer all of those questions in this episode. To work with me or us, you can visit: www.brycebauer.com www.jennymorrow.com
Disconnection is synonymous with depression. If you're disconnected from yourself, you may not even realize it. In this episode, I talk about the difference between clinical depression and general depression, how you can assess, and what you can do about it if you feel depressed. One of the #1 sticking points for men is talking about the past. What if we already talked about it? How much more? How often? What if it makes things worse? Why? I answer all of those questions in this episode. If you want to look at our retreat, group, and coaching options, you can visit: www.brycebauer.com www.jennymorrow.com
