We discuss what we’re going to discuss on the podcast, but we don’t talk about our backgrounds. And poof – we get similar backgrounds. It’s been kind of fall like – thought I hear it’s going to get much hotter.

Stephen: Nice choice of background.

Alan: Absolutely. Grapevines, think alike. It’s really, just to totally derail the list of what I had just said. We should talk about, I just wrote a post on Facebook that was about, whatever the secret weather scientists that are controlling the whole shooting match, they must live here in Cleveland area, northeast Ohio, because while all the rest of the North American continent and maybe the world is having name it, droughts and floods and typhoons and hurricanes and tornado alley and whatever else, we’ve had amazingly beautiful weather for most of the summer.

Yeah I remember times when we like sealed the house up for a month at a time with the AC and instead, We, we’ve had the AC on to sleep in our bedroom maybe I don’t know, half a dozen, 10 times in the course of the summer we’ve been out walking in the metro parks. We just, and in the winter it just wasn’t that severe.

I’ve had years where I piled so much snow up against our fence that I was worried that I’m gonna be able to get my car between the fence and the house. And instead, for whatever reason, we’ve just got this eye of the hurricane, beautiful temperate with just enough rain to keep things growing and. I don’t know.

Stephen: wow. You say that now. And today is beautiful. I’ve walked out several times, walked the dog, and I’m just like, man, this is like my perfect day. It’s just on the edge of getting to be autumn. I can tell it’s darker in the morning.

It gets darker quicker at night, exactly. It’s but they’re saying it’s gonna hit nineties over the weekend, so

Alan: we’re gonna get Indian summer or whatever early, and usually that’s October where you get that last burst of warmth before you really Winter clamps now and stuff. I’m okay with having fall be like, how about a couple months instead of just one week where you go from, Shorts to jacket weather.

Stephen: about just this is Ohio, so very often, you could wake up with snow in the morning and then you gotta time it to get that 23 minutes of fall and then it’s or spring or something, and then boom, it’s 90 and it’s, summer, I mean it.

Alan: Exactly. I’ll tell you, again, always looking for the geek aspect.

One of the wonderful things about, and we’ve talked about this a little bit before, weather forecasting is amazing nowadays. You really can watch in real time radar things about what’s coming in. You can judge if the route you’re going to take is gonna be covered by the rain cloud or can you skirt it.

Overview

Al traveled to Detroit to see Extreme and Living Color in concert. And we both saw baseball games – but we switched cities. Stephen traveled to Cleveland for a Guardians game and Alan traveled to Akron for a Rubber Ducks game.

There is actually a lot of tech involved with going to a concert or seeing a ball game. It’s mostly good tech and makes our life easier when dealing with an event that we can purchase quickly from our phone, or transfer tickets, or order snacks and have them delivered to us.

And Al got his new TV. He decided on a HiSense and talks about the features.

It’s Al’s birthday and we discuss the fun time he’s having and the cool presents his wife got him. Per usual, we discuss the cool swag he’s received.

There is a lot of music. Of course, it takes us 20 minutes of talking to even get to that point, but it’s how things roll in geekery.

Stephen recently attended the PulpFest and got an almost complete set of Tarzan stories. Our friends John and Jim from Flinch Publishing were there.

Are you looking for a new TV? Alan has done some research because his blew up – great story – and he wanted to make sure to find one that would be great. There are a lot to choose from and low price doesn’t give you the best television.

We delve into many stupendous science related topics today. Because of Alan’s background, we start right off talking about dinosaurs. Not sure what period his dinosaurs are, but we enjoy talking about discoveries and evolution.

And we’ve seen the new Oppenheimer movie and discuss it. There is so much to unwind with this movie, it’s a fun discussion.

Alan: fit. I’m pretty sure this guy’s a Stegosaurus and this guy’s an iguanodon, but I’m not sure. And it’s also that whatever name it once was known as, they tend to like get a new one nowadays when they find out, oh, you were, you know, mixing between the bones.

Or one was old and one was younger. I’ve actually heard a couple fascinating lectures about, for something that is, you know, hundreds of millions year years old, we’re still. Discovering, we’re still figuring out exactly that. It’s, it’s a classic puzzle where like there’s no instruction sheet, there’s no solution you could turn to, you just have to go with what do we know about things nowadays and how animals have to work in order to have weight supporting muscles and have room for organs.

There are some changes coming. Al is getting a recovery of house – since Colleen doesn’t need her home office, they’ve gotten rid of most of the office furniture. Which means – puzzles! More specifically, freeing up the table to put together puzzles. Which means he also has room for game nights again.

Ad we discuss the newest MCU show – Secret Invasion. This one hasn’t wowed people and we have some thoughts on what wasn’t great.

I would’ve thought that once people knew that multiple people were using multiple streaming things, that they would automatically do the polite thing of saving existing settings going into with theirs and then restoring how it was when they leave, they don’t, they want to act as if they’re the only one that you use.

I was on TV a couple times doing morning movie reviews because one of the men publicity and outreach things was, let’s Get us Smarty in there when there was a smarty movie.

Stephen recently went to see Collective Soul. Turns out, its a band that both he and Alan like.

Alan went to the Mensa AG. This is a big deal each year and there are just so many programs, talks, games, and events going on. Truly a highlight of being in Mensa.

Alan: Okay. Good morning. All right. Good morning.

Stephen: So I thought you went to Baltimore, not New Zealand.

Alan: Whoop, I can hardly hear you. Lemme see if I’ve got, it might be partly me. I think this mic you might have your volume way down. Yeah. Yeah. Still can’t hear me. I got my volume cracked up here or my speaker

All right, let me make sure I’m hooked up.

Yeah, that’s the microphone. How’s that? That’s better. So I thought you went to Baltimore, not New Zealand.

Alan: What I wanted to remember to mention was the has a thing called the I B D on the international board. Directorate or something like that. And they moved that meeting around the year and have a friend in Australia named Kimberly that really pushed for us to come visit and see the I B D in Perth next year.

And one of the things he mentioned in particular was that besides the meeting, they do excursions and of course there’s things in Australia like wombats and kangaroos and caucas and stuff like you don’t see anywhere else. And of course there’s, seven of the 10 most venomous things on the planet.

Stephen: Yeah, I was gonna say, and everything else wants to kill

Alan: you. You can worry about that a little bit. But, so as Colleen’s retired and as we start talking about what are our trips, we got this cruise and that’s trip to Canada and stuff like that. Lemme turn on night shift cause I’m glaring here.

Stephen: Yeah. I look a little red today, but whatever. I didn’t shave either, so it’s fine

Alan: there. That should be better. Yeah. As if, yeah. I was worried about the light on my face. Not this ridiculous shirt. But anyway so how was your like We haven’t we had to skip last week. Weeks. I wasn’t two weeks exactly that.

Stephen: wouldn’t say huge big events. I went to fireworks. We like to go to Packard Music Hall. Yeah. For the fireworks. They do a nice song thing I think I’ve talked about before in fireworks. And one of my buddies, dad is always there, so it’s like our yearly thing.

And I haven’t seen him for a couple years cause I haven’t gone. So I found him and he’s oh, you made it this year. I was wondering if you’re gonna be there. That it’s just, it’s, this is that little thing, but. While we were walking out, I’m looking at the big billboard and I see Collective Soul pop up and I’m like, oh, when are they showing?

I’m like, oh, it’s tomorrow night. And they had tickets for good price. And I’m like, all right, click. So coming back down. Okay. Very close. Yeah.
