In Part One of our discussion of the 1980 horror classic The Shining, we reveal who we cast for the four major characters, as well as who we would choose to direct the remake. Along the way we contemplate the type of connection that both Dick and Danny have with the Overlook Hotel, how old Danny needs to be (and, along the way, whether Heelys would work for the steadicam shots around the hotel, fancy carpet be damned), express our surprise with how understated much of Shelley Duvall’s performance was, try to find the perfect balance of ‘madness’ and ‘crazy’ for Jack, and, finally, Kyle shamefully gets his Grady’s mixed up.
