    Written by Steve Goodman and John Prine, the song "You Never Even Called Me by My Name" was a hit for David Allan Coe, the third singe release of Coe's career and his first Top Ten hit, peaking at No. 8 on the country charts. Doug Supernaw released a cover version of the song in 1994, on which he was joined by Waylon Jennings, Charley Pride, and Merle Haggard, all of whom are mentioned in the song's second verse, as well as a guest vocal by Coe himself.

    In 1981, Tompall & the Glaser Brothers released their version of Kris Kristofferson's "Lovin' Her Was Easier (than Anything I'll Ever Do Again)", their third single following their reunion a year earlier and their highest-charting single. Following the song's release, the Glaser brothers recorded only four more cuts for their label Elektra before disbanding a second time.
