This first Louisville story was written in late June when my husband and I were sitting in Southern Seminary's library doing some writing on our exploratory trip to sign a lease on our new home just five minutes from seminary. I share this now, because it was a special, God-sweetened day. And part of remembrance is looking back to gain joy and hope to keep following hard after God. The greatest romancer of all is God, friends. The one who loves you more than any parent, child, or spouse, ever could. The one whose love is perfect, unfettered by sin like our earthly relationships are. The one who saw your deepest sin—the ones you’d like to forget about, the ones you aren’t even aware of—and loved you the same.

He is the one to have loved you enough not to let you stay in that sin, but made a way, if we are but to receive. Listen in.

Fasting is a physical act of remembrance. Lent begins next week - 40 days of some sort of a fast, traditionally in the Church. I'm sharing my experience, encouragement, and some verbal tripping through this incredibly important spiritual discipline because God is worthy of our all. And the Holy Spirit will sift through any and every word or verbal mis-step I make in this longer episode to convict, encourage, and spur you on to prayerfully consider fasting. In Jesus name amen, let this be.
