Removing Barriers

Episode 48

The world came to a screeching halt in the spring of 2020. A new and contagious virus was spreading like wildfire and all levels of government worldwide scrambled for damage control solutions. Major shifts were happening quickly: politicians wielded deeply questionable power in the name of damage control, scientists pushed the envelope in pursuit of medicinal breakthroughs, and the American people in particular became acutely aware of the sheer magnitude of the power imbalance between them and their government...and all the dreadful implications that carries. In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, returning guest MD helps us explore the national response to COVID-19 and understand both what it has meant and will mean for Christians moving forward

Episode 47

When a veteran of the Brooklyn Center, Minnesota police force confused her taser for a pistol and shot an unarmed black man, the fiery cries for defunding police received more fuel. The bodycam footage seems to indicate a genuine mistake, but protestors are convinced of malicious intent. What does this mean for the argument to defund police, particularly for citizens who do not support defunding the police? Is there any margin for error when imperfect people are called to wear the uniform and perform difficult jobs? Does it matter that the decedent was resisting arrest? Join us on this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast where we explore these questions and more with returning guest and police officer, Officer CigarBro.

Series: How Were Your Barriers Removed - 9

Perhaps you are inclined to think that a person raised in a genuinely Christian home where God's name and word are revered would have no barriers to salvation. Or maybe you are that person and are struggling with barriers that few even know about. In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we sit down with Josh to explore what kinds of barriers he experienced and how God worked in his heart and life to bring genuine salvation and blessed assurance.

Episode 45

Most Christians (and perhaps most unbelievers, too!) would agree that something is incredibly wrong in the U.S. political system. Jesus calls the Christian the salt and the light of the earth, so how should the Christian interact with 21st century American politics, if at all? How is scripture to shape our political views? What should we do when the only political options available to us are "bad" and "worse?" How do we balance our identity in Christ and our political identity? Join us as we talk with Pastor Mike about these issues and more on the Removing Barriers podcast.

Episode 44

This is Part 2 of an episode exploring the relationship between cancel culture, free speech, and the church. The climate of public discourse has been soured by cancel culture: the intimidation, uncertainty, and loss of good faith makes any meaningful speech incredibly difficult. Part 2 explores whether speech should be censored in any way. If it should, who will have the power to do so, and what are the implications of that power? How will this affect the church? Will there ever be an instance where the Bible is successfully canceled?

Finally, we explore what cancel culture actually seeks to accomplish and what the gospel has to say about it.

Episode 43

The tally of people and businesses cancelled for running afoul leftist  ideology shows no sign of shrinking and the number of reasons for  cancellation are growing even faster. In response, many have bowed the  knee to the demands of the "woke" while others have opted to  preemptively cancel themselves! In this episode of the Removing Barriers  podcast, Sam joins us to discuss cancel culture and all of its  nefarious implications. How harmful is cancel culture, and is it a  necessary evil? Can speech be violence, and is there even such a thing  as hate speech?

Join us on part one of this episode as we evaluate these questions and  explore how the Church might be affected.

Series: How Were Your Barriers Removed - 8

Millions, if not billions of people around the world trust in various moral codes to enhance their lives and adequately prepare them for the life to come. The problem with that is, Jesus declared that there is no other means of life, truth, or salvation except through Him.  In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we talk to Anna about how Jesus Christ proved her religious upbringing and good moral code to be lacking in power for salvation, and how He removed those barriers to bring her to a saving knowledge of Himself.

Episode 41

In this episode of the Removing Barriers Podcast, we continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the Ma'Khia Bryant shooting, the Derek Chauvin trial, and the tweet LeBron James posted. Many praised the verdict of the Chauvin trial, but was justice served? How has James' tweet served to address (or inflame) the issues exacerbated by the shooting and the verdict of the trial? Should we even be concerned about celebrity opinions?

Join us on this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast as we discuss these questions and shine a light on how the saving gospel of Jesus Christ reveal the true states of our hearts and the one true solution to the problems of race relations and justice in our broken world.

Episode 40

On April 20th, the same day the verdict came in on the Chauvin trial, Ma'Khia Bryant was shot and killed by a police officer. National tensions reignited, and LeBron James fueled them with a tweet that many took to be a call to dox and harm the officer. But what are the facts of this case? Was the shooting justified? Are children capable of evil, and should they be held responsible for the evil they commit? Should the officer be charged?

Join us in this episode to talk about these things and their implications for race and police relations in the country.
