Several reform-minded schools have carved similar paths for I Promise to follow. The Knowledge is Power Program, better known as KIPP, has created the nation’s largest network of charter schools by catering to marginalized students with longer class hours, increasing access to teachers, and a tough but accommodating schedule for students. Rocketship Public Schools, another non-profit charter program with schools in California, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Washington D.C., operates with a similarly non-traditional classroom. Rocketship emphasizes a STEM-based curriculum while bringing a student’s home life into the classroom and continuing learning outside regular class hours. Both take aim at reducing the achievement gap between low-income students and their peers.

It’s still early, but reports from I Promise suggest the school will address Akron’s achievement gap by running similar reforms as other successful national programs. It does not go as far as KIPP or Rocketship in those charges, but it’s clear I Promise is designed to operate at a level beyond the typical public school by creating a more comprehensive experience for students, not just one that begins at 7 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is defending its use of a previously secret program used to monitor potential security threats at airports and on planes.

TSA then analyzes additional information available through law enforcement agencies and other databases.

The TSA has drawn criticism at times for its intrusive security measures, and lawmakers have scrutinized the effectiveness of the air marshal program. As The Boston Globe’s report made the rounds on Sunday and Monday, some privacy experts expressed concerns that the Quiet Skies initiative could cross a line if it is too selective in who it targets.

Les Moonves remains the CEO of CBS — for now. The company confirmed to Yahoo Entertainment that no action was taken at Monday’s board meeting, just three days after Moonves was accused of sexual misconduct by six women. CBS Corporation also announced that its board of directors “is in the process of selecting outside counsel to conduct an independent investigation.” While Moonves’s fate apparently is in the hands of a third party, his wife, Julie Chen, is standing by his side.

“Our Community Standards make it clear that we prohibit content that encourages physical harm [bullying], or attacks someone based on their religious affiliation or gender identity [hate speech],” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement about Jones’ suspension.

Yuba City resident Josh Gingerich buys and flips trucks. A recent buying trip to do that cost him a bag of cash which was seized by a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) drug interdiction task force at O’Hare Airport.

“A little over 29 grand,” the amount taken said Gingerich who was not arrested and did not break any laws. “No marijuana, no drugs.”


He believes an airport TSA agent saw the money in his backpack and tipped off the DEA.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is warning the US that war with Iran would be "the mother of all wars" but did not rule out the possibility of a peace agreement.

Americans "must understand that war with Iran is the mother of all wars and peace with Iran is the mother of all peace," Rouhani said while addressing diplomats Sunday in Tehran, according to Iran's state-run news agency IRNA.
The Iranian leader also had a message for US President Trump: "do not play with the lion's tail, because you will regret it eternally."
His comments come months after the Trump administration announced that the US is quitting the Iran nuclear deal brokered during the Obama administration and reinstating sanctions on the country. The sanctions are set to be reimposed November 4, and more than 50 international firms have said they will leave the Iranian market, Brian Hook, a State Department policy and planning director, said earlier this month.
