Ezekiel 24-25

On my fridge at home, our family has a calendar that marks all the important appointments and activities. Once in awhile, there will be a date that gets circled because it’s really important. It’s a date we need to remember.

In Ezekiel 24, God tells Ezekiel to "circle the date,” because it’s a day Israel will never forget. It’s a day of judgment.

Judgment has been a major theme of the book of Ezekiel, but in chapters 24-25, we get a front row seat to the fire and fury of God’s wrath. And unexpectedly, we get some of the first real glimpses of hope that follow judgment.

Ezekiel 20-23

We’ve all heard the idioms, metaphors, and sayings regarding fire . . . “that’s fire”, “they’ve been through the fire”, “he's on fire!" But what about “Tested by Fire?”

We will hear the fire metaphor throughout our text in Ezekiel this week as he is told to verbally groan through the house of Israel due to the sin and rebellion God sees and the fire that has begun to kindle in His anger.

How has God used a fire in your life to purge, refine, and grow you spiritually? Leveraging a phrase used both in the Old and New Testaments, let’s learn why we are called to rejoice in fiery trials and testing.

Ezekiel 12-19

We have a lot of modern proverbs, idioms, and sayings in our society. We’ve heard things like, “Wow, they have a lot of baggage!” or, “Their bags are packed!” But what about, “Pack your bags!”

The phrase could be met with enthusiasm for a much anticipated trip, or could mean "get out, you are no longer welcome." This week, God will confront Israel with a clear message due to their willful sin in His house . . . “pack your bags!”
