This week, we conclude our series on Ecclesiastes by asking (and hopefully answering!) the question of what exactly is “the good life.” Solomon’s answer is not wealth, though he had much of it. His answer is not sexual gratification, though he had much of that. His answer is not influence and power, things he also had much of. No, his answer - inspired by the Holy Spirit - is surprising.

Legalists say that we can't enjoy God and the world at the same time, that something is wrong if we are satisfied in this life. People in the ditch on the other side of the road advise us to forget God and to make happiness the center of our lives. But God's word, in its vast wisdom, teaches us how to thread this needle - how to enjoy the good gifts of God without turning those gifts into gods themselves.
