Paul reminds them, that they too were the darkness, alone and without the hope of Christ. As believers in Christ, we have a new identity marked by being light in the Lord. We are called to shine brightly and expose the darkness, living a life that bears the fruits of the spirit.

This work happens from the inside out as we are transformed by the power of His Spirit. As Christians, we are not motivated for change because of negative forces like shame or guilt. We "put off" the ways of the world inherent to us and "put on" the new actions and attitudes that match our new identity in Christ.

The foundation of the spiritual walk begins with the security of the gift we receive and the opportunity to belong. From there, we walk with Christ and yield to His spirit, allowing it to work in our lives. This work allows us to develop a Christ-like love and truly experience the depth of His love for us.

As believers, we are the adopted sons and daughters and freely receiving grace, peace, and redemption through His sacrifice for us.
