JR is back! The gang discusses Davante Adams' elite performance, Aaron Rodgers huckin' it deep, Gutey's incredible season, Tyler Ervin and Jared Veldheer, how Paul basically predicted how the game would go and how every Seattle game is the same, dunking on overconfident analytics types, George Kittle, Yellow Weasel, the most memorable play of the game, cowardly punting, the 49ers, and of course, listener questions.
Paul is also now a more permanent fixture on the MKE Tailgate Podcast, and you can support both pods on our Patreon here.
Intro: Come Back from San Francisco - Magnetic Fields
Outtro: Piazza New York Catcher - Belle and Sebastian
Paul and Matt discuss why Pete Carroll is a dope and only has a job because of his brilliant quarterback, the Seattle running situation, how Travis Homer is probably better than Beast Mode, how DK Metcalf compares favorably to an all-time great (but wasn't actually that good during the regular season), how Tyler Lockett compares to Doug Baldwin, how Aaron Jones should, as they say, eat, minor league baseball, housekeeping, Paul's increased role on MKE Tailgate, who we prefer between the 49ers and Vikings, and the Snow Globe game. They do not discuss the 2014 NFC Championship game, by popular demand. Though Paul will probably talk about it on the minipod, so gird your loins appropriately.
Intro: Far Behind - Candlebox, the best grunge band.
Outtro: Cover Me - Also, Candlebox.
Paul and Matt discuss the uninspiring win against the Lions, how to feel about a weird 13-3 season, our preferred and feared playoff opponents, Jaire Alexander's brilliant penalty, Blake Martinez getting a pick 30 yards downfield for some reason, whether this game was just practice to get timing down on bombs with the young receivers, where it ranks with Aaron's all-time worst games, why it maybe wasn't as bad as it looked, and where Davante ranks as a Packer receiver. Also, listener questions. Also, more Breweries should make standard English-style bitters.
Intro: Every Rose has its Thorn - Poison
Outtro: You Gotta Believe - Parappa the Rapper
Paul, Matt, and JR wish everyone a Happy Holidays as they make fun of the Bears once more, for old time's sake. Paul praises Mike Pettine but after the podcast he looked at their weighted DVOA and regrets it a bit. They discussed the near-debacles at the ends of both halves, the Vikings without Dalvin Cook, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix's throwback game, the utter incompetence of everyone on Special Teams except Tyler Ervin, the Lions retaining all of their failures for another year, David Montgomery getting stuffed by a dime defense all day, and Buster Skrine vs. Davante Adams.
Intro: Prince - Purple and Gold
Outtro: Homestar Runner - Everybody, Everybody (Decemberween Version)
JR, Matt and Paul discuss the maybe underwhelming performance against Washington, how it was mainly Aaron's fault, and Davante's a little, the change in punting philosophy, Adrian Amos, Aaron Jones continued awesomeness, how JR is younger than Paul, the best win of the season so far, and whether the Bears are to be feared.
Intro: Return of the Mack - Mark Morrison
Outtro: Chicago - Sufjan Stevens
JR's back, as the guys discuss the Giants, Danny Dimes' incredible propensity for turnovers, the defense still struggling in the "yards" department, Allen Lazard's breakout, Mason Crosby's amazing season, JK Scott's return to form, Ron Rivera and PJ Fleck's boats sinking, and of course, your questions. Also, Washington is very very bad.
Intro: Postal Service - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
Outtro: Hamilton Cast - Right Hand Man
Paul, who is dying of some incredibly terrible cold, and Matt, who is fine, discuss the brutal domination of the 49ers, dumb coaches, Blake Martinez as a huge liability, Aaron not throwing the ball down the BLASTED FIELD, whether it really was Kevin King's fault, Penalties and EPA, why JK Scott is amazingly terrible, having a special teams coach worse than Ron Zook, and Thanksgiving food. Also, how Danny Dimes may leave the Packer game with ten interceptions! Appropriate!
Intro - New York City, They Might be Giants! (doubly thematic)
Outtro - Gigantic, The Pixies
Matt, JR, and Paul discuss Packer songs, from The Bears Still Suck, to the Packer Rock Anthem, to Robert Brooks adaptation of Kriss Kross's "Jump" in which he throws enormous shade at Leroy Butler. Yes that is a thing that happened. The guys take a look at a few Bears songs, an unfortunate Kid Rock song about the Lions, the worst possible cover of Old Town Road, and Serengeti's general brilliance. They also preview the upcoming game against San Francisco and, as usual, take a few questions.
Into: No I Don't Wanna Do That - The Happy Schnapps Combo
Outtro: Packer Rock Anthem - Cascia Films
In this free preview of Minisode 12, generally available only to Ball and Glove ($5 Patrons) at https://www.patreon.com/MKETailgate, Paul previews the 49ers, the turnovers according to Garp, why they should play Raheem Mostert more, Emmanuel Sanders, the probably overrated 49er defense, the Shanahan-LaFleur-Pettine Connection, George Kittle as the best non-QB in the league, how the Packers created Colin Kaepernick, and all that goes with him, and how Jerry Rice totally fumbled.
Intro: Forever Young, Rod Stewart
Outtro: Montana, John Linnell
Paul and Matub discuss the game against Carolina, whether Mike Pettine may be smarter than we think and decide that he probably is not, go over the math on Ron Rivera's decision, go over the Math on Matt LaFleur's decision, pick our midseason MVPs, answer the question as to whether Tim Boyle would make the Badgers into a college playoff team, and address the scourge of penalties in the league. We also talk about some super-sleuthing Matt did on Za'Darius Smith's recent arrest, and take listener questions!
Intro: Bye Bye Bye - NSYNC
Outtro: Wait for It - Cast of Hamilton
