A bill that would issue driving privileges to undocumented immigrants — and any Idahoan who doesn’t want the federal star card — is back at the statehouse this session.
Under current Idaho law, if someone does not have documentation that proves they are a U.S. citizen, the person can’t get a driver’s license, register a vehicle, or get a vehicle insured. The bill would would create a driver’s authorization card allowing driving privileges, and it was introduced by state senator Jim Guthrie of (R-McCammon).
Guthrie tells Idaho Matters why his measure has received support from powerful groups, including the Idaho dairy industry.
