Mental resilience is a buzzword for firefighters and their mental health. There are a ton of techniques out there but I wanted to hear from Josh, a guy on the job for a little over 7 years in South Florida on a large department.
Josh suffered a back injury and spent his time on light duty reading and finding a way out of the "rut" so many of us have found ourselves in.
He didn't know it, but that prepared him and his wife for the loss of their second child while his wife was giving birth.
In this interview we talk about the reality of getting a crappy hand dealt to you and what to do about it. Josh mentions "You can live in the stories surrounding the events that happened or learn to process them and move on"
I saw what he went through and wanted to share with everyone his strategies and tactics if you will.
We go over actionable steps that you can do to be ready for anything life throws at you both on and off the job.
This was a longer recording so I broke it up over 2 episodes. Join me next week for part 2
