This time, beyond navigating the largest range of opinion on the show thus far, Adam, Liz, and Maggie grapple with this somehow-G-rated movie about racism, ableism, and the burning of Paris. It sure has great animation and some banger songs, though! Featuring the podcast’s first Bob’s Burgers callout, a brief pitch for a Disney-animated Les Misérables, and a speculative segment on the remainder of Claude Frollo’s “Book of Zealot’s ABCs,” since he and Quasi only recite through "E" (or maybe "F") in the film.

Content warnings: The movie itself uses some vocabulary that is inappropriate for polite conversation in the 2020s, but the episode does not. (Well, we don’t use those particular words. The Edge of Seventeen is an underappreciated teen coming-of-age film from the 2010s, with a compelling central character, great writing, and great acting. This was one of Maggie's picks: neither Adam nor Liz had seen it before. Guess which one predicted the movie perfectly, and which one got it completely wrong!

Even if you, like Adam and Liz, haven't seen the movie before, we promise we cover enough of the details to follow along. This one contains some hot takes on teenage depression and identity, reasonable and unreasonable reactions to a crush leading you on, and Liz's Grand Theory of Coming of Age Stories.

We complete our tour of formative childhood movies for the crew by visiting Liz's all-timer, The Last Unicorn, a lesser-known but terribly interesting animated film released in 1982. (To pre-empt one question we've already received: this is not to be confused with the film "Death of a Unicorn" from 2025...very different movie! In this one, the unicorn doesn't die, and that's kind of the whole point. Themes of immortality, and so on.)

Listen in, and we guarantee the nimblest of possible transitions between contemplating the pain and depths of mortal existence and discussing whether a certain flesh-colored living tree is meant to be trapping a man between a pair of breasts or a pair of balls.
