Mary played a pivotal role in the Advent story but it was bigger than just carrying the Christ Child in her womb. So much bigger! She was part of a bigger redemptive thread. And she received this mission with a surrendered joy. We can learn much from this young girl and her delight in being called by God in ways that truly upended her young life.

Hope. It can seem so far away sometimes. There is a proverb that says "hope deferred makes the heart sick" and that may have been the case for Zechariah. But oh how that script can change in the blink of an eye. Tune in as Zechariah's hope is fulfilled in ways that were beyond his imagination. Won't God do it??!!

Prophets from Scripture were not simply God’s mouthpiece, but humans who became one with the deep emotion that God has towards His people. It’s as if they absorbed the very feelings of God deep into their minds, souls and bodies, through the act of representing Him. God calls His prophet Hosea to marry an unfaithful wife as an example to the Israelites of how their unfaithfulness hurts the heart of God. We see the familiar three-fold pattern of sin, consequence of sin and restoration play out in this story and it is a powerful reminder that God pursues covenant relationship with us even when we get distracted by sin. It is His kindness that leads us to repentance!

As much as we love the mountain top experiences, is that what we should be pursuing? Joel makes the case for finding God in the faithful pursuit of the every day. Boring? Not even! Joel points to the story of Moses as an example of the joy that comes with patience and even in those hard periods of waiting.

These five young girls fought against a system of injustice and won! They had a theology that was formed around the idea of a God who is Just and Good. A God who keeps His Word.
