When Jesus prays before his arrest, what does he pray for? In this last part of Jesus' High Priestly Prayer, we see Jesus pray for us to be unified in him.

Sometimes  when we don't experience this unity, we can begin to wonder whether we're really saved. We begin to look at our imperfect lives and feel a sense of imposter syndrome. But being imperfect doesn't make you an imposter. It just makes you able to receive the gospel.

Jesus says that we are in the world, as he has been in the world, but we are not of the world, just as he is not of the world. That means we can neither remove ourselves from the world, nor give ourselves over to it. The result? The Christian life is hard. But it's worth it.

Jesus spoke in many obscure sayings and figures of speech - "Wash one another's feet." "I am going to my Father's house to prepare a place for you." "I am the Vine, my Father is the Gardener." "When a woman is giving birth she has sorrow, but when the baby is born she forgets her anguish for joy that a human being has been born."

But at the end of John 16, Jesus speaks plainly. "In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

Jesus' Farewell Discourse in John 13-16 is a bit of a rollercoaster, filled with many of Jesus' most famous statements. It covers both the good ("I am the Vine, you are the branches..."; "I will send you another Helper..."), and the bad ("if the world hates you, know that it hated me first"). Why is Jesus saying all of these things? 

In John 16:1, Jesus tells us that he has said "all these things so that you will not fall away?"

What does does it mean to fall away? Why is it such a threat for disciples of Jesus? And how can we be certain we will not fall away? Dive into the Story of God and discover how the Spirit helps his people.
