This Sunday we wrap up our sermon series called ‘You Belong’ with perhaps the most important aspect of belonging together as a family: bearing up one another’s burdens. We wrap up this series in this way because it is the most intimate, difficult, and rewarding aspect of belonging to a church family. No one desires to grieve and suffer alone, and yet millions do each day. Millions deny the importance of belonging to community partly because our culture often turns a blind eye towards the inevitable reality of suffering and sin. But the Body of Christ calls out a different tune: We bear up one another burdens. We recognize our brokenness. We empathize in the midst of suffering because that is modeling Christ’s definition of love.

On this Ascension Sunday, Pastor Mark preached on how Jesus’ wishes for his disciples mirror the vows some of our members will be taking next weekend.

This shorter message emphasizes the things people need to know in response to the coming of the Holy Spirit: a) Jesus is the Christ, b) repent and be baptized.

This Sunday is our second to last sermon in the series of “I am therefore We are.” This week we emphasize how God is a lawgiver. The law was a gift, and it was a gift that the Psalmists took delight in. As Christians, what does it mean to take delight in God’s law? Or better put, what does it mean to delight in God’s law as fulfilled in Jesus? This issue of delighting really has to do with a challenge to grow in passionate faith in Jesus.

This Sunday as we go through this series called ‘I AM, there We are’, we dive into what it means that God is a Holy God. We throw around the word ‘holy’ a lot, but do we actually know what it means? And given that God is indeed holy, what does that mean for us as God’s ‘holy’ people?

This Sunday we dive into the concept of God as Father and how that title influences our ability to be called His children. The connection we will be making is how when we become children of the Father, we are brought into this process of sharing with Christ in his suffering. Yes, we will also share in his ‘glorification’ (Romans 8:16), but until that day comes, when we suffer and when we walk alongside those who do, we are bearing an important mark of what it means to be a Christian.
