  • S2, E6: Patriarchal Masculinity & Friendship (with Josh [@cobbunplugged] & Billy [@yozefu_umubaji])

We want to hear from you! Send us a text with your thoughts or feedback! :)

In this episode I have the opportunity to sit down with my great friends and fraternity brothers Josh (@CobbUnplugged) and Billy (@Yozefu_Umubaji).

Friendships are already hard; but even harder when you mix it with patriarchal masculinity. Billy, Josh, and myself discuss the way in which patriarchal masculinity influences the way that we connect with other men and masculine folks.

As we are socialized into 'rigid' definitions of masculinity and manhood, we realized that the pathways for connecting with other men and masculine folks are usually through sex, sports, or politics. We've found it hard often to connect, when those topics aren't at the center.

I hope that you enjoy this honest, and transparent episode! Let us know what you think!

  • S2, E5: Patriarchy & Rest!

We want to hear from you! Send us a text with your thoughts or feedback! :)

"We are not resting to recharge so we can do more. We are simply resting because it is our  divine and human right." -Tricia Hersey (@TheNapMinistry)

As some of you may have noticed there was no episode last week! I would love to be able to say that this was part of the plan and that this was intentional to make this episode come alive; but it wasn't. There wasn't an episode last week, because I was burnt out.

In this episode I talk about the importance of rest, and how patriarchal masculinity influences and shapes so much of our beliefs and practices around rest,

I hope you enjoy this episode!

  • S2, E4: Gentleness and Black Masculinity (with Chris @chrisdjoseph)

We want to hear from you! Send us a text with your thoughts or feedback! :)

In this episode I'm joined with Chris Joseph, a creative and community builder to discuss Gentleness and Black Masculinity. Often our society pushes boys, men, and masculine folks to reject any and everything associated with gentleness or softness; leaving many folks with having to mask themselves, or put themselves in a box that they don't want to be in.

In this episode we will talk about about our experiences growing up in Christian households, navigating Homophobia, and our relationships to men and other masculine folks.

I hope you enjoy this episode!

  • S2, E3: To The Men Survivors of SA

We want to hear from you! Send us a text with your thoughts or feedback! :)

    *Content Warning:
This episode is about men and masculine folks who are survivors of sexual assault. Please take care of yourself if you choose to listen to this episode. If you are personally impacted by sexual assault and need someone to talk to, please know that you can call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).

    "
Researchers have found that at least 1 in 6 men have experienced sexual abuse or assault, whether in childhood or as adults. And this is probably a low estimate, since it doesn’t include non-contact experiences, which can also have lasting negative effects. If you’ve had such an experience, or think you might have, you are not alone." (1in6.org)

Sexual assault is something that many men and masculine folks have experienced, but also something that most men don't talk about (because of shame, fear, etc). In this episode I share some of my personal experiences, and just information on the impact of sexual assault.

Some resources for men and masculine folks

    • You can chat anonymously and confidentially with a RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) support specialist who is trained to help at online.rainn.org
    • Male Survivor has different webinars, live events, and also support groups that you can join (some of these support groups offered are also identity based).
    • 1 and 6 has resources for friends and families of survivors, ranging from book recommendations, statistics, and survivor stories.

Sending all my love to the survivors out there. You are not alone. <3

  • S2, E1: We Should All Be Feminist

We want to hear from you! Send us a text with your thoughts or feedback! :)

“When men embrace feminist thinking and practice, which emphasizes the value of mutual growth and self-actualization in all relationships, their emotional well-being will be enhanced. A genuine feminist politics always brings us from bondage to freedom, from lovelessness to loving.” -bell hooks

This episode named after "We Should All Be Feminist" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, explores how patriarchal masculinity is something that can be discussed because of the writings, and activism of feminist.  Because Feminism is something that benefits everyone, we should all be feminism.

Here's a link to the article I reference towards the end: "23 Ways Feminism Has Made the World A Better Place for Men"

I love you all. Thank you for listening to me, and thank you for allowing me to have this platform.

  • S1, E9: A Reflection On Accountability & Healing

We want to hear from you! Send us a text with your thoughts or feedback! :)

Content Warning: This episode will include topics that are sensitive, and triggering such as Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Power & Control, and other forms of Abuse and Violence. Please prioritize your well-being as you listen to this episode.

In this reflection I take you all on a journey of what went through my mind during an evening walk. I found myself deeply disturbed by this constant cycle of harm (hurt people, hurt people).

The journey of healing is one that we all must take. It's important. It's necessary. It's required. That's what I hope people take away from this episode.
