  • Episode 208 - Critical Year-End Planning Tips that Require Your Immediate Attention with Deborah Jacobs – And, Sadly, Our Final Show on KQV
As you probably have heard, KQV is going out of business and, sadly, this will be our final show on this station. We intend to keep the show going and have a promising alternative but no agreement yet. We will keep you posted. But, there is other significant news too.

For better or worse, President Trump just signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act into law. The tax reform is significant for both businesses and individuals, but this show will concentrate on how individual taxpayers might cut their taxes. Because of the unique timing of the tax law changes, this is the most important year-end tax radio show we have had. You only have a couple of weeks to adjust your year-end planning.

This week, on The Lange Money Hour, Jim Lange and journalist Deborah L. Jacobs, the author of several books including; Estate Planning Smarts: A Practical, User-Friendly, Action-Oriented Guide, will be discussing these critical year-end tax planning action points regarding itemized deductions:

Pay for items you deduct on your itemized deductions so you can claim them this year.
The higher standard deduction in 2018 could mean that even if you can itemize deductions, the tax benefit might not be worth it.
Your tax rate might be lower, what will that mean?

  • Episode 207 - Maximizing Your Investment Experience with P.J. DiNuzzo of DiNuzzo Index Advisers, Inc.
2017 has been a remarkable year for the United States, both politically and financially. Beginning with Donald Trump’s inauguration, it’s been a year of Congressional gridlock, a high-stakes political investigation, and unprecedented actions – and tweets – from a U.S. President. Yet through it all, the markets have continued their upward charge. The Dow Jones Industrial Average reached the 24,000 mark for the first time on November 30 – and it’s up more than 20% since January 1, 2017. The current bull market (typically defined by a continuous rise in stock prices without being interrupted by a 20% decline) is now over eight and a half years old – one of the longest in history.

This has left investors wondering…how long can this bull market continue? Is this current market situation entirely new, or have we seen things like this in the past? Should we be worried? Is it possible to invest strategically to minimize the impact of an inevitable market downturn?

On this episode of The Lange Money Hour, CPA/Attorney Jim Lange welcomes back investment advisor, P.J. DiNuzzo. P.J. and Jim will discuss:

What has happened so far in 2017, both in the U.S. and international markets
What these results mean for investors
Active Money Mangaement vs. Index Investing
      Strategic vs. Tactical Asset Allocation
      Diversification
      Rebalancing your portfolio
Bond markets, interest rates, and inflation
Given future unknowns, how you can succeed financially by "Controlling What You Can Control."

  • Episode 206 - Controlling Your Retirement Destiny with CEO of Sensible Money, LLC and Author Dana Anspach
Dana Anspach is the founder and CEO of Sensible Money, LLC, and an active financial advisor and author in the Phoenix area. She and Jim share a common mission to provide objective, nuanced, and personalized retirement planning advice for their clients. And like Jim, she is committed to educating her clients.

When she began working as a financial planner, she realized that there was something wrong with the way most people over the age of 50 planned for retirement—many simply didn’t understand the risks and the rules, best practices, or the difference between a fee-only advisor and a commission-based advisor. She believed that people were being improperly influenced by politics, financial products, and advertising.

So, she formed her own firm to help clients make informed decisions about retirement planning and retirement spending.

On this episode of The Lange Money Hour, Dana and Jim will take an in-depth look at the four biggest risks that Dana believes people face as they plan for their retirement years:

    • The Longevity Risk: Being too preoccupied with the rate of return on your investments and/or how much risk is involved in those choices might be blinding you. An equally important piece of the puzzle: how many years should you be planning for? How will your investment choices play out if you live to 75? What about 85? Or 95?

    • Sequence Risk: You need to have a realistic perspective on how returns on investments can affect your long-term spending. The “sequence” of annual returns, from high-to-low or low-to-high, during your retirement years is something we can’t predict, but there are strategies to combat sequence risk.

    • Inflation Risk: There are ways to protect against inflation risks. You need to know what they are, and why inflation disproportionately affects lower-income retirees.

    • Overspending Risk: Many people under estimate the amount of money they are going to need in retirement, and they over estimate the amount of money they can withdraw each year. What steps should you take to estimate your spending? How can you factor in some protection for unexpected expenses?
