  • ACTION: TDFs are Dangerous

Don't merely know information. Believe in its ability to help you.

    Don't merely believe.  ACT!

Target Date Funds are the Bing of investment options. They may be the default, but they are not the best. Here are you action items:

    1. Check your Retirement Plan (and your spouses) to see if you have any TDFs.
    2. If you are not close to retirement, but your parents are, ask them if they have TDFs. TDFs are most dangerous to this group. (Pass this episode along if they do.)
    3. Schedule a time to get an Investing Plan. (Set a reminder or alarm right now if you don't have time to put it on the calendar.)

    5. The Trouble with Target Date Funds

Target Date Funds are the default options for many investors in their 401(k)s. Not because they are great options, but because they cover the butts of 401(k) companies and employers. But they have their troubles.

TDFs are Dumb. They result in lower long term returns at higher fees.
TDFs are Dangerous. They give no options to those in retirement, forcing them to make The Big Mistake: Selling their equities when they're down.

While this is not investment advice, I contend that NO ONE should own Target Date Funds.

Don't merely know information. Believe in its ability to help you.

      Don't merely believe.  ACT!

Basing your Lifetime Returns on a Five Minute Risk Tolerance Questionnaire is Stupid!

Here are two ways to act on that knowledge.

      1. Listen to Episodes 1-4. They will build your foundation for believing that RTQ based investing is insufficient.

      2. Schedule a time to get an Investment Plan. Have a Plan, not just a portfolio. And unless you can get one right now, schedule a time to do it. Make time to either create one yourself, or find an advisor who will help.
