There is no concept in the Bible any clearer or any basic command any
stronger than a Christian’s duty and responsibility to care for the poor,
the needy and the vulnerable of society. In this lesson we look at what the
Bible says about caring for and helping the poor, while at the same time we
study what it really means to be poor in spirit. We need to understand our
spiritual bankruptcy in order to completely depend upon Jesus to save us.
The people that are rich, increased with good and in need of nothing are
like the Pharisee quite proud of his righteousness while the publican knew
he was a sinner, in need of a savior.
