January 14, 2018 Episode 205: The New Year's Show That Didn't Air with Zeke Johnson
This was recorded 31 December, 2017. It was meant to be live. That didn't happen as apparently (or so we are told), some New Year's Eve reveller took out an "internet node" with his car and took down the entire area the studio sits in. There were phone calls to the ISP (Comcast), adult language was used (liberally) and it was ultimately decided to record the show for later use. Here is that later use. Ric and Dianna were ready to go with this show so they did it anyway. It is the Radio Memphis New Year's Eve show featuring Zeke Johnson.

So yes, a new year and some new things. At least out of our studios. In this episode, Ric sits down with local performer Liz Kinnmark about her series of quarterly shows known as Poleluminati. Liz will explain what this show is all about and how you can find out more. Pole dancing. It doesn't necessarily involve nudity. At least no one was naked during this conversation. It is no secret Memphis is fountain of fantastic talent. One such part of the musical talent that never gets talked about in depth is the art of songwriter. In this episode, Ric sits down with Eddie Dattel and Wally Ford who have written a massive catalog of songs for a bunch of artists in the area. Eddie doesn't get out to play much, as he will explain in this conversation but, he has a new disc out and he plays a couple of songs from that CD plus a couple of cuts from the disc itself. Plus, Ric wraps up 2017 with his final thoughts of the year.

Ric likes to say, "The best part of Christmas is it being over." Since he suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder, it makes the holidays a little more difficult, especially at rude hours of the morning. Also in this show, a fantastic conversation with a Midsouth musician who is known all over the country, Lightnin' Malcolm. Great stories, including a talk about the Grammy nominated R.L. Boyce (who was also booked that night but coudn't make it due to a flat tire), a great performance and a wonderful story about his work with Robert Plant. Yes, THAT Robert Plant.
