  • E09 - Testing AI Thumbnails & An Alpine Coaster Adventure in North Wales
In Episode 9 of the Rich on the Road podcast, Richard deals with a sudden flare-up of knee wear-and-tear that sidelined his weekly hike, recalling a similar injury from his 2024 USA road trip.

Despite staying off his feet, he has plenty to share.

Richard follows up on last week's AI discussion by launching a real-world YouTube A/B test. He is pitting his own thumbnail design against one put together by YouTube’s studio tools using his baseline assets to see which version actually wins the click.

Then, the main feature dives into an unforgettable summer road trip to North Wales.

From taking the slow back roads to Shrewsbury, they head deep into Betws-y-Coed to take on the thrilling Alpine Coaster at Zip World UK. Richard also details their rainy-day runs, walks near the iconic Pont-y-Pair bridge, a scenic drive along the stunning A5, and a hidden waterfall tucked away in a housing estate.

  • E08 - AI in Travel Content & (Trying to) Keep It Authentic - Plus a Chester Campsite review
In Episode 8 of the Rich on the Road podcast, Richard pulls back the curtain on the recent "rebirth" of his YouTube channel.

He shares the brutal honesty of shifting content focus, losing subscribers, and why genuine engagement matters far more than vanity numbers.

Later in the episode, Richard dives into the rapidly evolving world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in travel content. From AI-generated Facebook flyers to polished social media feeds, it is getting harder than ever to know what is real.

Richard shares his personal philosophy on keeping his content 95% authentic, while candidly admitting how he just used ChatGPT to solve a major thumbnail design headache for his upcoming North Wales adventure video.

      • E06 - Welcome to Rich on the Road, and Hurst View Campsite
        Welcome back to the podcast!

After a bit of an unintended summer break, we are back, but things look a little bit different around here.

In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on why the old names (Driving Horizons and Stories Through the Shutter) are gone for good, how a major website malware attack forced a fresh start, and why everything is now officially aligned under Rich on the Road.

From here on out, these episodes are unscripted, informal, and focused on travel, day trips, camping, and walks—just like a casual chat with friends.

I also catch you up on our recent, incredibly rough ferry crossing back from a family summer holiday in Jersey (complete with storm delays and broken-down yachts!), a surprise September resolution to get fit, and a preview of today's video destination: Hurst View Caravan and Camping Park on the south coast.

What We Cover in This Episode:
        • The Rebrand & The Malware Mess: Why I'm dropping the corporate shield, moving to a secure new host, and bringing a personal touch back to the podcast and YouTube.
        • The Schedule: What to expect moving forward—podcasts every Monday morning, and brand new travel videos dropping every Monday afternoon at 5:00 PM.
        • The Jersey Ferry Survival Guide: Rocking like a seesaw, premium lounge sick bags, and getting home at 2:15 AM.
        • A New September Resolution: Joining the gym with Max to kickstart a healthier routine.
        • Hurst View Campsite Preview: Breaking down what to expect from this basic, field-style campsite nestled between Lymington and Keyhaven.

          • E04 - Fuji X100VI - Is This The Perfect Travel Camera?...Why I Like it (And why I don't!)

            My Website: www.richardchubb.com

The Blog Post for this Article: www.richardchubb.com/episode04

In this episode, I dive into the much-discussed Fuji X100VI, a camera that has generated a fair bit of buzz since its release in March 2024. With a compact design and impressive 40.2 megapixel resolution, this fixed-lens camera caught my attention as I sought a smaller, more manageable alternative to my usual Canon gear for travel. I’ll share my journey of switching from a DSLR to this more portable option and why it has worked surprisingly well for me on short trips.

However, no camera is without its flaws, and I'll be candid about what the X100VI lacks—like its fixed lens which can be restrictive and a menu system that’s not quite as intuitive as I'd prefer. I reflect on my experiences with the camera, the balance between its strengths and limitations, and how I ultimately decide which gear to take on my adventures. Whether you're contemplating a similar switch or just curious about this acclaimed travel camera, there's plenty to consider in today's chat. Tune in to hear my thoughts!

Welcome back to another episode of Stories Through The Shutter! Today, I’m taking you along on my adventure to Keyhaven, where I set out on a color shoot despite the grey skies looming overhead. Armed with my Fuji X100VI and a clear plan, my mission was to hunt for those vibrant pops of color that could brighten up the dreary day. In this episode, I’ll share my journey into the marina, the initial successes that kept my spirits high, and the unexpected challenges that tested my focus and creativity.

As I wandered away from the marina, I quickly realized that I had lost my way—both literally and creatively. Frustration crept in as I battled with self-doubt and the uninspiring surroundings. But after a moment of reflection and a much-needed reset, I returned to the marina with a fresh perspective. By slowing down and honing in on the subtleties of color that I had previously overlooked, I was able to transform my experience and capture images that truly resonated with me. Join me as I reflect on how intention can shift our outcomes, reminding us that the creative process is an ebb and flow of focus and patience.

          • E02 - Hiking & Photography With a Knee Injury in the Rocky Mountains

Welcome back to the show! In this episode, I share the unexpected challenges I faced on what was supposed to be an epic road trip through the Rocky Mountains. Just four days before our adventure kicked off, I injured my knee to the point of needing crutches and having to start the holiday in a wheelchair.

This was leaving me petrified about how I could even enjoy the trip. Imagine flying 5,000 miles, only to question whether I’d be able to walk unaided on the trails I was so eager to explore.

Despite starting my journey in a wheelchair and grappling with doubts, I pushed through the pain and discomfort, ultimately conquering a breathtaking hike.

Join me as I recount the ups and downs of this trip—from the struggles of traveling with an injury to the victorious moment I stood at Emerald Lake, soaking in the views that had once seemed impossible. It's a story about resilience and discovering that sometimes, what feels unattainable can be achieved with determination. Enjoy the ride!

            Summary:

In the inaugural episode of "Stories Through The Shutter," we dive into the often-overlooked relationship between travel and photography style. Host Richard Chubb shares his experience from a spontaneous photo walk at Fistral Beach in Cornwall, revealing how simplifying both gear and expectations can lead to a profound transformation in creativity and perspective. This episode encourages listeners to take their time, observe their surroundings, and truly immerse themselves in their adventures, fostering the unlikely birth of personal style through less rather than more.

            Key Topics Covered:
