We all want peace, and we all feel as though we lack it. So is there a place we can run to and find that we peace and healing are present and with us?

Provider.

The name Jireh has become familiar with people in the wake of the Maverick City Music song. God is our provider. He is enough. We can be content because He has and is all we need.

But what is the deeper meaning and context behind God being called Jehovah Jireh? Is He like a cosmic Walmart stocked with all the goods we need for each week that we visit on Sundays to stock up? Or is there a deeper meaning in God being our provider this isn't less than but far more than we imagine?

All of us can relate to feeling vulnerable or exposed as we navigate a world affected by sin. Things are not as they are meant to be and that can lead to all kinds of disorientation, fear, anxiety, and everything in between. In the midst of it we simply want someone, anything, to care enough to shield us from the storm.

In the Bible God is called four names; El Roi, El Shaddai, Jehovah Tsuri, and Jehovah Sabaoth. These four descriptions of God's nature paint a very clear picture; God is our defender. He see you. He is your hiding place. He will make all things right again.

What do we do with a God who shows Himself to be both Master and Father in a world of deep desire for freedom from mastery due to bad images of fathers?

God's self-existent and eternal view lends itself to a view to power, but God desires us to understand His power in the context of a deeper, more fleshy, relationship. He wants us to know that the one who commands your steps also wants to know you like the Father who taught, or should have taught, you how to throw a ball, ride a bike, and tucked you in each night.

What does it mean for God to be the "Alpha & Omega?"

As we start to look at the names of God, we begin by looking at the scope of God revealed in His name. He is pre-existent and will be existent forever. He is Elohim of Elohim. He is Jehovah, the self-existent God; I AM. Ego Emi. This has much to say to every follower of Jesus.
