In this episode, Robert sits down with Dr. Andres Marroquin, a Professor of Economics at Mercer University. Dr. Marroquin goes into detail on how the Wealth of Nations is formed, and the critical aspects in transforming a society in such a way that prosperity is possible. China has been a major force in shaping the world economy of today. It was subject to one of the greatest booms in modern history, and many believe it is poised to take the title of the world's largest economy within the next decade or so. However, a closer look shows a struggling economy, drowning in the debt it created to drive itself to everlasting growth. What does China look like underneath the hood? In this episode, Rob tries to explain the details and how the problems stem from a basic misunderstanding of the fundamentals of economic thought.
In this episode, Keith Jaworski, a CFA and Wealth Management Director/Researcher with 35 years of hands on experience, comes on to talk about the recent uncertainty in the market, what strategies and tools would be helpful in making the best investment decisions, who would be the best people to learn from, and how to come out of these turbulent times in one piece.
In this solo episode, Rob plays with the question of whether governments should be involved in the economy, and addresses several examples of how they may or may not improve our lives, from UBI and intellectual property laws to quantitative easing and the "Dutch Disease." What we have for this episode is very special. As a part of the Students for Liberty Chapter at Mercer University, we helped host a debate between the titans on February 5th, 2020. Filmed in front of a live audience, Christian Watson goes head to head with David Stokes on the motion that "Capitalism is the most benevolent and efficient economic system ever conceived by man" while Rob watches in awe and moderates, too.
