Ep. 13 Just Scandalous
The Righteous, Ratchet & Real Podcast is a weekly conversation between sister friends, ministers who met while pursuing their doctoral degrees. These discussions are meant for those who love God but side-eye the church. The conversations are ones you won't get in the pulpit but are just as sacred.
The movie “Honk for Jesus” shined a bright light on the issue of real-life sexual scandals in the Black Church. When pastors or church leaders stray, it’s not just the spouse or the side-piece who gets hurt, but the whole church. We are asking the question, of whether redemption is possible and if so, how?

There’s one of two scandals that people figure happen in church–money or sex. During this episode, we are tackling when the money in the church does not add up. How do we handle it when churches have a financial scandal? This deep dive into the church and the many money scandals we have seen is meant to create a dialogue on how we can take steps to ensure the church doesn't continue to end up in this position.

We are discussing on this week's episode the controversy that arose as Pastor Creflo Dollar denounced tithing. Our discussion explores if tithing is still relevant or if it is a broken model. We also delve into how Pastors have used giving as a means to get a quick coin. As always, we don't hold back and offer insights from our perspective using a righteous, ratchet, and real lens to give you your own food for thought around the subject.

We should not be afraid to address difficult conversations regarding the things happening in the church that we just don't like. So, we are beginning to have hard conversations and this is the first installment. Today we are talking about pimps in the pulpit and the commodification of the gospel that allows people like Juanita Bynum to charge $1499 for a prayer conference. But the reality is she's not the only one and we want to talk about how we got here to a point where the gospel is no longer free and here to help set people free. Instead, it's being sold to the highest bidder.
Voting is a sacred act and we want everyone to do their part and vote their faith. Do your due diligence on each candidate and match them against your values, so that you are casting a meaningful vote. Don't forget to take your soul to the poll on November 8th and cast your ballot!
Many people feel guilty about resting, but it is time to change the narrative around rest. It's time to understand that in a world that takes so much from us daily we need to push back and resist the urge to just keep going. Our guest today, Rev. Dr. Kellie V. Hayes offers us insight on how she has been intentional with her schedule of rest and offers you tips to do the same.
Negotiating and renegotiating parental relationships comes with getting older. Your parents become part of your responsibility, but they don't always want to be cared for and told what to do. After all, they are the parent and they'll always see you as their child. This episode we talk about establishing boundaries with aging parents and helping you both find ways to both be heard and also recognize you're no longer a child and your voice is important.
People pleasing is a draining process, so there has be a point where we center our voice and health above others. This is an opportunity to learn to set healthy boundaries and trust the people around you will be able to love you as you learn to stop breaking yourself to serve and be present for everyone else. They say the new year starts with the actions you put in place in October, so start your 2023 by prioritizing yourself.
This is the first episode in our series on boundary setting. We are giving you permission to start saying no to what doesn't serve you. The way to ensure you maintain your peace is not by saying yes to everything that people need. We want to help you normalize being able to tell people no and not feel guilty when you do. They will be ok with it and if they are not, then those aren't the people for this freed up season in your life.
