In anticipation of Data Privacy week (January 25th‒28th, 2023), Justin Smulison is joined by Fred E. Karlinsky and Travis Wong to discuss all things cybersecurity and data privacy.

 

Joining in the first half of the podcast is Fred E. Karlinsky, a shareholder and Co-Chair of the Insurance Regulatory & Transactions Practice at the Florida law firm, Greenberg Traurig. Fred is also a member of the RIMS External Affairs Committee and will be one of the panelists joining the RIMS External Affairs webinar on January 5th titled, “How Cyber Insurance is Shaping the Insurance Industry.” In his conversation with Justin Smulison, he provides an overview of the webinar and discusses how cyber and risk management trends are overlapping this year and in 2023.

 

Travis Wong, the VP of Risk Engineering and Security Services at Resilience Insurance, joins the podcast in the second half to offer a deeper perspective on data privacy topics against the backdrop of current events. He lends his expertise on cyber security trends, the FTX collapse, and organizations that are at risk for data breaches, and shares his advice on what organizations can do to better protect their remote employees.

Recently, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) released its Hotel Booking Index Rating to Gauge Hotel Industry Outlook. Joining RIMScast today to discuss 2023 projections and risk management trends within the hotel industry is AHLA President and CEO Chip Rogers.

Chip originally joined the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) as President and CEO in January 2019. AHLA is America’s only national association dedicated to serving the interests of the entire hotel and lodging industry and was named “100 Associations That Will Save the World” by ASAE under Chip’s leadership.

 

In this episode, Chip shares AHLA’s findings in this episode such as the impact that COVID-19 has had on the hotel industry, short-term and long-term projections, and the opportunities that have emerged due to the pandemic.

Only 2 ½ more weeks until the RIMS ERM Conference 2022! In this episode, Justin Smulison is joined by Chicago RIMS President Carnell Jones and return guest (and friend of the show), Nir Kossovsky of Steel City Re!

 

Carnell and Nir are two of the three speakers who will be delivering the general session titled, “Mitigating the Hazards of ESG-Linked ERM Risk,” at the RIMS ERM Conference on November 11th at 11:30 am. This session will explore the value proposition of how to manage ERM to mitigate ESG-linked reputation risk strategically. It will focus on the cultural aspects of rounding up the collaborators from legal and communications using the transparency of captives as a metric for tracking value creation and more. The session is then capped off with how to engineer the solution.

Jana Utter has made an appearance before on RIMScast in 2019 in an episode titled, “All Things ERM with SERMC Chair Jana Utter.” Jana served as the Vice Chair of the Strategic and Enterprise Risk Management Council from 2018‒2019, the Chair from 2020‒2021, and is now a member of the Annual Conference Planning Committee.
