In this week’s episode, Justin welcomes Christine Maligec and Nicole Cebuliak to the podcast! Christine is the Director of Risk Management at Alberta Urban Municipalities Association and Nicole is the Manager of Branch Administration and Coordination at the Government of Alberta. They are also both Co-Chairs of the 2019 RIMS Canada Conference which will be held September 8th through the 11th at the Edmonton Convention Centre in Edmonton, Alberta!

Today’s episode is all about the Spencer Educational Foundation, the philanthropic arm of RIMS! It was founded in 1979 and to this day remains the premier organization funding the education of tomorrow’s risk management and insurance leaders. And on September 19th, 2019, RIMS will be celebrating the 40th anniversary with a fantastic gala in New York City!

This week, Justin is joined by Lorraine M. Martin, the new President and CEO of the National Safety Council! Lorraine brings over 30 years of experience in both civic and corporate leadership to advance the Council’s mission of eliminating preventable deaths at home, on the road, and in the workplace. She was also an officer in the U.S. Air Force and has an incredibly unique perspective to bring to the space of risk management!

This week, Justin will be covering the RIMS NeXt Gen Forum, 2019! It was recorded live, in Times Square during the forum in June. He got to speak with Cameron Alford, a New Jersey-based insurance specialist and a board member of the RIMS Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Council; Kristy Coleman, Senior Risk Manager at Turner Broadcasting and Co-Host of the risk management “Jeopardy!”; and Steve Pottle, RIMS VP and Director of Risk Management Services at Thompson Rivers University.

Today’s guest is Kelvin Coleman, the Executive Director for the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA). Kelvin is a veteran of high-stakes cybersecurity posts at the White House and in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and has excelled in public and private leadership roles throughout his 20+ year career.

Today’s guest is Dr. Karen Hardy. Karen has been a risk manager in the Federal government for years. She is known in the industry for being an innovator and influencer for the advancement of Enterprise Risk Management in the Federal government sector. She is a founding member of the Association of Federal Enterprise Risk Management (AFERM) as well as its Board Vice President.

Today’s episode was produced and recorded live in Boston at the RIMS 2019 Annual Conference — and it’s going to be a fun one! It’s centered around one of the conference’s cool new features: the Start-Up Stadium and RIMS’ first-ever Insuretech Competition called, “Killer Appeal with an Added Byte.” This was a Shark Tank-style pitch contest where small business CEOs showcased their technology-enabled solutions and were judged by a panel of expert risk managers.
