Biblical and other historical examples of "standing in the gap" are numerous and inspiring. This heroic move that has turned the tide of battles and sieges can also be applied in spiritual warfare. On the threshold of an evangelistic campaign in Ringgold, Dr. David Hartman commissions the congregation to stand in the gap using intercessory prayer. Who in our lives, in our community, needs the Spirit to move on their heart in ways you and I cannot?

Dr. Hartman teaches in the area of applied theology at Southern Adventist University. His classes include Christian Beliefs, Christian Spirituality, and Interpersonal Ministry. He has a passion for winning people to Christ and training others to do the same. He will also be one of the guest speakers for our fall evangelistic series.

Even the demons know the scripture, so what good is knowing its words without acting on them? Brother Vaughan Choudree challenges us that we all have 1,440 minutes in each day, and in that time, we have opportunity to share the gospel as Jesus commands. We are called to be disciples, making disciples! Imagine the impact of simple friendship evangelism, if we would but study God's Word and share with the people we encounter in our daily lives.

Many of us remember hearing mission stories growing up--stories of people meeting challenges and even persecution for sharing God's Word and love. What does the gospel mean to you and me, today, even as we experience freedom of worship? People still need to hear the gospel as much as any other time or place. The Beatitudes are a "blessed" passage from Christ's Sermon on the Mount. More than just poetic words of comfort, they are promises to those who persist in the Christian Journey.
