Hans, after years of work, receives a large piece of gold. Eager to visit his mother, he trades the gold for a horse, the horse for a cow, the cow for a pig, and the pig for a goose, each time believing he's making a better deal. Eventually, he trades the goose for a heavy rock, which he then loses down a well. Relieved to be rid of the burden, Hans joyfully continues home, demonstrating that happiness isn't about material possessions but about perspective.
